These are complete instructions for posting images in the forum. If you still need help feel free to post a message in this thread.

Image Must Be Online

To post images in the forum they must be hosted on a website and then properly formatted into your post. Images residing only on your computer can't be posted or uploaded to the forum unless they are put online.

Popular sites which you can use to host your images are ImageShack, Flickr and FreeImageHosting. If you have images on your computer and want to post them in the forum then use one of these websites to host the images. If the images you want to post are already online then there is no need to do this.

Get The Image's URL

When the image you wish to post in the forum is properly hosted on a website then you need to get the URL of the image. The URL of the image is the exact web address which the image can be found at. Don't mistake the URL of the webpage the image appears on for the URL of the image.

To get the URL of an image do this:
- in Firefox: right-click on the image and select "Copy Image Location"
- in Internet Explorer: right-click on the image, select "Properties", highlight the Address field and press Ctrl+C

After this the image URL will be held in your computers clipboard.

This is an example of an image URL: http://www.vibrantvictoria.ca/page/mungomartinhouse.jpg

Post Image Using IMG Tag

Now you are ready to put the image into your post. Use the IMG tag to do this. You can also click the button which is available above the text area when you write your post. Press Ctrl+V to paste the URL from the clipboard.

The image URL must be enclosed by the IMG tag like this:

[img]http://www.vibrantvictoria.ca/page/mungomartinhouse.jpg[/img]

It is also necessary to properly credit the source of the images that you post. The image we are using here is by HighInBC on Wikipedia so we state them as the source.

The final result is:

Source: HighInBC on Wikipedia

 100[/hr]
Additional Notes

You can give an image a black border by using the IMG= tag followed by a number specifying the width of the border.

[img=4]http://www.vibrantvictoria.ca/forum/page/images/butchartgardens.jpg[/img]

When posting multiple images you will want to separate them with a blank line so that they do not appear cluttered together.

Post like this:

[img]http://example.com/image1.jpg[/img]

[img]http://example.com/image2.jpg[/img]

[img]http://example.com/image3.jpg[/img]

Not like this:

[img]http://example.com/image1.jpg[/img][img]http://example.com/image2.jpg[/img][img]http://example.com/image3.jpg[/img]

Some websites or photographers do not allow you to post their images onto another website. Posting images from one website onto another website is called hot-linking and is not always a respectful thing to do. Before posting images from another website look to see if there are any strict copyright notices or any other messages that indicate that the owner of the images or website do not agree to their images being used in this way.

An image with a URL such as C:\Windows\Documents\skyline.jpg will not work because it is hosted locally on a computer and is not accessable to others via the web.

The ability to attach images or other files is not available in the forum.

Wow nice work Dylan!

Flickr is a bit tricky for newbies. Imageshack seems to be troublesome at times for people. I've had success with Photobucket.

I've had success with Photobucket.

Forget that, Photobucket now charges for third party use. If you see a broken Photobucket link on this forum make a note of it and maybe we can re-upload it directly to VibrantVictoria. There's a lot of great photos that have dead links.

Photobucket accused of blackmail after quietly requiring users to pay $400 a year to hotlink

I've had unreliable service from Photobucket for years, but have been using VV's FREE photo option for over a year now and it works perfectly once you get used to it.

I expect many of my old images will disappear unless I can find time to replace them from files I have stored on my computer.

Once again...it's free.     At least it was a minute ago.

Photobucket has singlehandedly ruined half of the internet with their dumb charge-for-hotlinking/embedding move.

So many great activity logs on hundreds of websites now completely useless.

Photobucket should have just sold the photos like iStock, tell users they can host, but they can also sell your photos if you on a free plan.

That could pose some major legal headaches if there were photos hosted on PB that were private.

Photobucket probably would have made more money charging $29/yr than $499/yr.

Either way, thousands of forum logs have been broken because of it.

90%* of photos posted to FB are copyright infringement, nobody cares.

They were loosing customers long ago because of the inconsistency of their product

Why would you pay for hosting if you can get the same thing on here for free.

We have talked about this before here. https://vibrantvicto...-thread/page-45
