^^ There seemed to be a good amount of people going in and out - we were having dinner across the street at Fiamo.

Chimac Korean Fried Chicken opened at the former Matisse space across Yates from New Asian Village. I thought it was excellent, exactly what I expect from such a place and I think it will be quite popular.

^What did you have? Would you go to the similar new place on Quadra?

I was sorry to see that Nandos in Millstream has been replaced by a Korean restaurant called the Persimmon Tree.

The Next, a Japanese restaurant in the Cook Street Village, is for sale. Café Layla, a fairly new Lebanese restaurant downtown, is also for sale.

I've had the half order of chicken; friends and wife had the lunch special. It was good.
I've also been to Chicken 649 on Quadra. Also delicious, but I haven't eaten too much of the menu there, just the regular chicken so far.

OPENING SOON!!
Finally!! I've done ALL the work and leased a space. The very first VEGAN HIPPIE-CHICK CAFE will open in downtown Victoria British Columbia in March-ish. I'll keep you posted as we get set up. We've created a menu that supports local farms and sustainable fair trade products. On the menu we have all of our house-made organic, raw, vegan smoothies, juices, sandwiches, buddha bowls, stews, pizza, snacks and of course lots of yummy desserts. We will be doing regular videos of the fun goings on at the cafe. Also we will have a documentary day each week featuring an awesome vegan/health/environmental film... I have a few lined up so far anyone interested in giving me permission to air their film just message me on here. So if you love good fresh food stop by and visit us once we open!!!
Peace & Love, Karen (the Vegan Hippie-Chick)
1034 Fort St. Formerly Hillary's Cheese.
I had a sandwich there. It was really tasty. I was skeptical because the "bread" appeared to be crispy corrugated cardboard but it added a unique crunch. A good alternative to the same old Subway a few doors up.

I may have missed reading about this on VV, but Solstice Cafe & Lounge, 500 block Pandora is no longer as of the end of October (a year since their big reno?) and now is replaced with "*****in' Biscuits".

I went to the uptown location of Noodle Box today for lunch and there was a sign posted saying that they are closed until further notice. I'm not sure if this is permanent or not...

I am sure it's just to deal with the damage from the fire in their kitchen last week.

It amazes me that owners/operators aren't more 'Up Front" in their little window signs when they close, for whatever reason:
"Closed until further notice. Not going out of business, but we had a kitchen fire, so we need to fix it"
or how about,
"We're sorry you came for lunch, but we suffered a kitchen fire, and had to close. We welcome you back when we can rebuild, and hope our staff can find jobs in the meantime."

I never made it to Catalano or North 48. Clearly, I need friends with more adventurous palates.

Catalano's closure is disappointing but not at all surprising. It became one of my most reliable go-to weekend brunch spots over the last few years - delicious food and the place was always 90% empty so no spending an hour waiting in line like most other brunch places downtown.
Never made it to N48.
