Rosie's Diner in the Cook Street Village is closing at the end of the month.  Rumour has it that it will be replaced by a Korean restaurant.

Phew, folks at the diner confirm it will close but will reopen later this spring under new ownership, but still as Rosie's.

Never heard that called Mckenzie Mall. Is this owned by the same owners as Langford Sushi/Victoria Sushi?

Appears it may be an 'outlet' or something of Langford Sushi on Millstream. http://toktokvan.com...ushilangford/#

That'd be great, I've always enjoyed the sushi there, though not cheap.

Oh ya, it's been McKenzie Mall since I was a little hockey fan 30+ years ago.  We used to play street hockey on the pakade lower level on Sundays, it was "all weather"!

The odd client would come out of the clinic to find a hockey game had broken out around their vehicle.   No harm, no foul.

Serious Coffee in Cook Street Village has closed.

Bummer on that. I used to go there when walking through the village or out that side of the park.

According to Reddit it's due to a combination of expiring lease and poor margin:

Yeah i asked one the barista. Their leased was up and they decided not to renew it. They probably drastically increased it too considering how everything in cook st village has been on the rise.

She also said most of their clientele was old and using their discount on regular coffee and not buying anything else. They didnt do enough profit.

With the implementation of the $15 min wage I can see lots of sit down coffee shops may be in trouble as they aren’t turning tables over very fast or selling more than a few $’s per seat per hour.

What'll happen is there will be fewer employees and the hours of operation will be reduced. I can definitely see a lot of these places being closed on Sundays going forward, for starters.

New on Broughton St. across from the library.  This must be the 3rd name for the place since the crepe place left.

When Songhees Nation Chief Ron Sam sat down with Clipper Founder and Chair Merideth Tall in 2014, a powerful vision was born. The respective leaders quickly realized that they shared the same desire to create a special partnership to help increase exposure to Victoria’s deep roots in Songhees culture. The determined path forward? Food + Culture + Community. And really, really good food.

Rooted in the Songhees Nation’s deep history in Victoria and the surrounding region, our food truck offers a modern take on Songhees cultural tradition. Critically-acclaimed Victoria local, Chef David Roger, in collaboration with a number of Songhees Nation community members, built a vast menu with fresh local ingredients that authentically incorporates the craft and care of food preparation embodied by the Songhees. An extension of the Songhees Nation, the food truck is an accessible touchpoint in downtown Victoria where you can experience an important piece of our culture and community.

It seems a bit spendy, given that they aren't paying for the overhead of running a traditional bricks and mortar.  $12-14 for a burger with no side, $6+ for a latte and $4.50 (!!!) for a double espresso.  Deadbeetz (normally parked @ RBCM) by comparison, is $11-12 for a burger.

I guess where they are located, they're looking to take advantage of the favourable US exchange rate.

Chef Roger was my boss when we opened the Marriott, years ago. Heck of a good guy. He also runs the concession for Lake Hill little league, “Dave’s Dugout” or something like that.
