I believe there was a Popeye's Chicken on Douglas St. about 10 or 15 years ago near the 2nd slice pizza?

I know it was an American Chain and that it was only there for less then a year I think.

Wouldn't that have been the combined KFC/Taco Bell?

I remember this restaurant, but not the name.  It was run by the same people that own Second Slice because I saw the same people working at both locations..  I ate there a few times.

Maybe if someone has an old phone book from that time, they can check the name.

I still miss the combined KFC/Taco Bell where the Mac's was.

I miss the taco place that used to be INSIDE the Macs.

No, it was a stand alone restaurant on Douglas St.

It was right on one of those two blocks that has 2nd slice pizza.

I am now thinking it was a "Chester Fried Chicken" which is another big American fast food chicken chain.

it was for sure either a Chester Fried Chicken or a Popeyes

Most definitely not! Don't remember the name but was NOTHING like a taco bell. I can't even stomach Taco Bell.

you are correct on both names,  the chicken place was Chester Fried Chicken and the taco place in Mac's was Taco Del Mar.

KFC /Taco Bell was on the corner of Yates/Douglas which then became Cole's Bookstore then Mac's. If the other chicken place was there then it was before KFC time pre-90's

I am pretty sure it was Cole's before it was KFC or Mac's.

Right, so the Mac's had the Taco Del Mar inside it, and the KFC had the Taco Bell inside it......

^Definitely was a Taco Del Mar on that corner.

I searched the TC archives and saw no mention of a Chicken place on that block but I swear there was one. The Second Slice pizza did relocate a few doors down, it was in the Cross' Meat Market building.

Yes, we believe it was Chester Fried Chicken.

A U.S. Fried Chicken chain was definitely there, as I lived downtown at the time, and used to walk by it almost every day. But alas....it was short lived.  Perhaps 6 months to a year.

I am pretty sure it was Cole's before it was KFC or Mac's.

I also remember there being some sort of international school directly above it.

it appears willie's bakery closed up permanently for lack of staff.

Walked past it on my lunch break today and it was back open again! Nice to see.

Yeah, I noticed it was still open when I walked by the other day. And yet on Facebook, news of its closure sparked outrage over how bike lanes have killed the downtown and that businesses were closing right left and centre, all because of Lisa Helps.

I guess they got their worker situation figured out. They closed due to staffing issues, no?

I believe the rumour mill here said staffing issues. The sign that was posted on their door the last few months said closed for renovations. I didn't see any indication of any renos, but perhaps in the kitchen.

It wasn't staffing issues, the staff laid off were going door to door up LoJo trying to find work to cover them as the owner gave them little notice. Many would have been happy to work extra shifts if they'd been offered had it been just a shortage of staff.
