Not sure if its been mentioned but the old James Bay location is in the process of becoming a Bubby Rose's Bakery/Cafe.

 

Here's the roll-call for Serious Coffee closures/potential closures:

- Cook Street Village (closed)

- Broad Street (closing?)

- Oak Bay Ave (closed)

- James Bay (closed)

Sad to see all these Serious Coffee places disappearing - they'd slowly been becoming my go-to coffee chain over the last few years, if a sit-down coffee out was what I was after.

the master franchiser has to keep building value - or more importantly perceived value for the royalties and supply agreements the franchisee has to continually pay and maintain - or of course he risks the operating walking at the end of the agreement.

Anyone know if the Olive Grove on West Saanich Road is turning into a Floyd's? It closed down for renovations recently and was painted pink last week.

A Vietnamese banh mi place looks almost ready to open at 774 Fort St, the former "La Tea Ah!" tea place. Which I didn't even notice had closed down despite walking past it multiple times a day...

There are many restaurants that could be considered top 7 here. It's subjective, and certainly depends on what you're looking for. eg. Blue Fox doesn't rate being on the list at all if you're talking about dinner or Il Terrazao if you're talking about breakfast. Certainly though, the cream does tend to rise to the top and folks should be looking at the top 10% to get a good idea.

I tried the dipped cones from chocolats favoris downtown for the first time this weekend and can honestly say it's so damn good. I've never had a dipped cone like it before. I'm slightly ashamed to say I've been back for another already but I couldn't get that cone out of my head
