Most of the businesses in the Public Market are open now. For the last few weeks, it's just been Shatterbox Coffee open.

Anyone know anything about the new Da Tandoor restaurant on Veterans Parkway in Langford?.
Ate the there last night and it was the best East Indian food that I have had in ages!
Apparently the operators had another well known one in town a number of years ago but sold and retired.
Strange location and a strange time to open but well worth a visit.
Related to the da tandoor that was on fort street? It was always excellent.
Matt.

I think that might be it. They said that they weren't right downtown (which I took to be the tourist areas),
Anyways, they have had success before so I expect that they will again. The food was great!

We were going to Quality Foods for groceries but were deterred by a long lineup and kept driving.
Then we spotted the Crooked Goose and decided on a whim to have dinner. The had four tables set outside the door. A limited menu on paper but the pasta and fish & chips were first rate. Bottled and canned beverages. And we got to eat restaurant food from real dishes instead of a styrofoam box and a real server waited on us.
It was our first restaurant meal since March 14. It was a nice change of pace and gave the illusion of a return to normalcy. Familiar but foreign.Like that Tim Hortons on the army base in Afghanistan--identical but totally different.

I went to a BCL store today and for the first time ever during COVID they had an employee manning the door counting heads.
Know it all.

^ ditto the one in Broadmead Village (Royal Oak) - they've had someone on the door all along.

Also Fairfield store - almost always a line up - and always someone at the door. It is also a very small store so not really possible to distance at all times.

Perhaps this isn't the best selling feature at the moment, although it should allow for more distancing options.

Spinnaker's is in their front parking lot. I saw one other place yesterday that had expanded outside, but for the life of me I can't remember who it was, someone downtown.

That's ironic. How long did it take them get approval for the tasting room? That required parking!
Building a deck sounds promising in that it is a structure that hopefully will be permanent. Awesome - a beer patio only a couple of blocks from work!

IIRC, the tasting room application was made at the same time the City was reviewing the downtown parking requirements in the Zoning Bylaw. So the proposal was consistent with the new Zoning Bylaw, but not the Zoning Bylaw in force at the time. The current requirement for downtown brewpubs is 1 parking space per 2,153 SF of floor area.

There's a new sign TUG at the Swift St. location of the former Fishhook (Fish Hook) across the street from Canoe.
Oddly, the Fishhook website makes no mention of the closure of that location. And Mr. Google makes no mention of an upstart restaurant called Tug. Well maybe it's not a restaurant but sure looks like it.

They do have a website though: https://www.tugeatery.com/
The most recent update on Fishhook's Facebook page was on March 17 and states they will be "closed for the foreseeable future." Fishhook is affiliated with Dobosala, right? Perhaps a deeper issue than Covid-19?
