Bay Centre seems really empty

I used to love going downtown, but not any more.  No parking, or expensive parking, too many street people harassing you!  Much easier to go to a mall or to Langford.

JRM: You might be right although I prefer Oak Bay to a mall. Mostly we just amuse our selves at home. Bought a rowing machine from Amazon to add to our bicycle and weight machines and it is a brilliant addition. Have to confess that I am glad not to be in a small condo during this time of plague.

But Victoria is rather crappy these days with little prospect of improving any time soon.

And if TV secures another position on the CoV council on December 12th, expect things to get even worse over the next 2 years.

Bay Centre is offering free parking:

  • Thursdays & Fridays after 6 pm
  • Weekends 3-hours free parking

On now until December 20, 2020 in the Bay Centre's underground parkade.

Plenty of food service establishments nearby as well, open for dine in with your household bubble!

Anyone want want to engage in some mostly baseless speculation?

Here are the facts:

1. There is an interior reno BP on hold for "Existing restaurant improvements" on the old Floyd's property, 866 Yates Street

2. The file number is BP055878

3. Based on other BP file numbers, the application was submitted in 2019 on either October 9 or 10

That's all I've got.

I’d be shocked if someone were to invest money into a building slated for demolition. I think the BP went on hold when it became clear that the entire block would become a major development play.

The interior of Floyd's is being gutted as we speak.

Yeah, I would have to assume in preparation for demo'ing, no? If the BP is on hold I don't think they'd have started work on a reno, would they have?

Don't tell the City, as there are no permits issued for interior strip out or demolition! No other permits in process either, at least according to VicMap.

All I know is that workmen are going in and out and it looked like all the booths and tables were gone. Do you need a permit if you're just stripping out the furnishings?

Interesting! Do we know if Burger Crush will continue to operate its food truck where it's currently situated at Cook and Mason? I'm happy for them, but will be sad if their truck leaves my block. :(

I guess either way, this at least means I can get Burger Crush all year round.

No legitimate restaurant could operate in those spaces anymore.

“The cafe's original location is in a former bakery in downtown Victoria, but has since expanded to two new locations at city hotels: one at a Comfort Inn and Suites and the other at the recently closed Paul's Motor Inn on Douglas Street.”

How is the Comfort Inn situation any different than Paul’s, when both closed, and both were turned into low barrier housing? Why refer to them in a different way?

not sure.  i see they get a CRD contract to supply meals to the various campers daily.

remember the old days when camping was only 7-7 and you had to go to our place if you wanted meals?

seems like so long ago.

Anyone tried Mod Pizza in the Belmont shopping plaza?

Apparently it is pretty good.
