Anyways, lots of food delivery in a climate crisis, housing crisis, affordability crisis, etc.

The best way to address any crisis is to do things much more expensively and inefficiently.

No one can cook for themselves anymore due to all the crises.

IMHO* the cooking crisis doesn't get enough coverage.

*apologies for shouting

You mean like pursuing housing affordability by capping developable land and creating ultra-onerous building codes?

Not only that, but have you seen the prices for decent olive oil?

He’s got such a beautiful set up. Keeps adding olive trees. I think he’s at 100 acres, right in the Burgoyne Valley. Sells out every year too.

Whoa. Looking at a map, I had no idea there was a gravel mine in that area.

Let's just say that's not the same oil Mike K. has been using for the fried chicken in VV's cafeteria.

Oh yeah, there is one on Jones Road too,  Forsyth Landscaping or something.  Nice people! I think there are a couple more on the island.

I think the money is good, well beyond what a retail job might pay. Tips add up!

Except food delivery people only serve one customer at a time. Unlike your staff who serve a number of tables.

I routinely order from places 20 minutes away. And the driver has to get to the restaurant. So they took at least a half hour just to service one customer.

I totally get the appeal for all the reasons VW mentioned. But the math just doesn't add up to me, considering the cost of a vehicle.

But I'm also the person who doesn't understand why you would pay 6 figures for a cat scratch post business.

TIL that there is a gravel pit and olive oil farm on SSI. I'm much more interested in the olive oil.

No, I think they serve multiple customers at once, per trip.

When I use Skip it says "delivery driver name" is going to the restaurant to pick up the order. Then tells me "delivery driver" picked it up. Then I watch in real time while they drive straight to my house.

Silly me today just realized that the folks doing the food delivery jobs are doing it for all the reasons VW mentioned and are willing accepting very low wages in return.

Just like I joked for many years that I would make more money working for someone else, but then I would have to work for someone else. So I stayed self employed.

They most certainly pick up multiple orders at a time, but I’m sure it’s up to each drive as to what orders they take.
