Here it’s Yakatsu Uburger. Is it a rip on the Washington franchise, maybe?

Know it all.

What's the big deal? Sometimes you katsu, sometimes you burger. You of all people should understand that.

Signage is up now… perhaps they will be using ground pork?

With an ode to Pink Bicycle!

Anyone notice the pink flamingos stuck to the vent on the roof?

Those have been there at least 5 years or more. Always give me a laugh when I notice them.

I love a good burger - looking forward to trying this place!

Not an ode but relics left behind...  Likely might stay for a while...  They have been there a while.

Eight lower mainland restaurants awarded a single Michelin star this week.

What, no ranking for your SSI eatery? :)

Tried to eat at a fancy place while I was in Van. Bacaro. Was expensive but nothing great. Didn’t notice at the time because we were chewing the fat. Wasn’t till the next day when we realized it wasn’t worth the money.
The lowbrow hotpot the next night was as good. Served by a robot even.

Funny enough, had a birthday weekend in Van last weekend. We went to Hawksworth... for the $$$$ was average at best. Service was fantastic though, but I could of cooked better at home, which I am finding more and more these days.
Predictive text and a tiny keyboard are not my friends!

Likely related to the pig.

Pluto's is permanently closing tomorrow afternoon after their brunch service. Not too surprising - the physical space was really the only appeal of the place the last decade it was downtown (certainly wasn't the food or the service). After the move, I don't know anyone who went to the new location except for the occasional comedy night.

Bummer about that. Agree that the curb appeal just isn't the same. It being in Quadra Village had me there now and then for a weekend breakfast, was planning to go tomorrow actually. I've never seen it overly busy, maybe they're not pulling in enough to stay ahead of expenses, the economy being the way it is.

Costs have never been so high! It’s never been a great business, but things are definitely going in the wrong direction.

And dining out is often something people feel they can cut back on when budgets are stretched.

If you are living in a 600 sq foot condo dining out is almost a necessity. You need to get out so you dont feel like you a prisoner in a box.

600 sq ft is luxury compared to most units these days!
