This just in!
House of Chicken at 823 Bay Street appears to have closed after only six months or so. The storefront and pylon signs have been removed, apparently today, as I didn’t notice anything missing when I drove by yesterday. It’s interesting because they appear to have a location in Delta, so I wonder if it’s doing better there. I just checked their website and it’s a bit of a mess, with placeholder text still in the menu descriptions. They also don’t seem to be on DoorDash or any other delivery apps. For a niche cuisine in a difficult location, that probably made it harder for them to gain traction.I feel like the name didn’t help, as I assumed they did fried chicken. I stopped in shortly after they opened, only to find out it was Pakistani food, which wasn’t what I expected or in the mood for at the time.

I noticed new signage up at the shop front on my way past. "Karahi and Curry Spot"
I'm not familiar with Karahi, but it looks to be Pakistani, so there's a good chance it's a rebrand as opposed to new ownership. Here's wishing them better luck with this venture!

Ghost Ramen set to close at the end of June, as per their instagram
After an incredible run, Ghost Ramen will be wrapping up service at the end of June—and we want to celebrate every spicy, slurpy moment with you. Thank you for all the love, laughs, and late-night bowls. We couldn’t have done it without you.
It’s been an absolute honour to serve what we proudly believe is some of the best ramen around, and to be part of your cravings, date nights, and comfort food rituals.
There’s something very exciting coming to the Ghost space, so keep those eyes (and appetites) open.
Craving your favourite ramen? Come grab your go-to bowls before they’re gone—or take a road trip to visit Nikkei Ramen in Courtenay, where it all began… the OG.
This isn’t goodbye—it’s see you later. We’re exploring ways to bring Ghost Ramen closer to you, so stay tuned to get your fix.

Chantelle Gorham’s business has been receiving hate mail since her children created a Nanaimo bar larger than a record recently set in the Harbour City.

“Hate mail”. Ya right. Probably a tiny handful of people said something negative online. Not really a news story, and TC never elaborates either.

Nanaimo just needs to up their game. It’s good headlines if they beat it again, no?
