Heritage workshop to teach old house owners new tricks

[FONT="]House-proud heritage home-owners will exchange ideas and learn new tricks at the unique Your Old House Rehabilitation Workshop, June 13.[/FONT][FONT="]The one-day event - costing just $25 including lunch is co-sponsored by the Victoria Heritage Foundation and the Saanich Heritage Foundation. It will include sessions with tradespeople, heritage professionals and experienced home-owners, focusing on a whole range of rehabilitation issues, including:[/FONT]

[FONT="]Researching house history;[/FONT]
·[FONT="]Replacing missing architectural elements;[/FONT]
·[FONT="]How to be green without compromising heritage;[/FONT]
·[FONT="]Repairing chimneys;[/FONT]
·[FONT="]Preparing to paint;[/FONT]
·[FONT="]Handling historic windows;[/FONT]
·[FONT="]Upgrading foundations and seismic upgrading.
[/FONT][FONT="]Participants will be able to cruise displays of period light fixtures and heritage hardware - from coat hooks to sash latches. They will also have a chance to buy heritage books, to ask questions of the experts and to network with tradespeople, planners and other owners. Your Old House and walking-tour brochures will also be available, free. The event will be held in Saanich Municipal Hall, Saturday June 13, 8:30 – 3:30.
