Omarosa sat down with ABC for an interview and asserts that the craziness regarding her departure had to do with media bias and media hysteria.

She said she resigned, she said that she was not forced to leave, she was not dragged out of the White House, she was not escorted out, she did not fight with John Kelly, she did not try to run into Trump's residency, and she calls the stories relating to her firing absurd. She is still serving until the 20th.

^That's her side of the story. You take it at face value? The fact is, she was fired and her White House pass was immediately deactivated by the Secret Service Tuesday, along with her email account. She was escorted off the grounds but not by the Secret Service. The rest is unsubstantiated at this point. It's logical to infer that the White House was attempting to give her a dignified soft landing but Omarosa didn't make things any easier on herself.

She maintains the reporting on her resignation is completely false and unverified. She says she resigned, effective January the 20th. She maintains a single person is feeding the media misinformation and that individual's assertions are completely false.

As far as her pass is concerned there's a bunch of nonsense surrounding that, too, she says. There are three areas of access at the White House and she lost access to certain parts of the White House but maintains access to others. Standard procedure.

"You get two passes. There are three complexes in the White House. As you are restricted or limited, your access is restricted."

"I was not escorted, and they are deactivating my pass, and reducing it to areas where I can only go. And it should be done in that way. As people's roles in the White House change, so should their access."

Who cares, people get fired, quit, die.  There was something like 1,400 staffers required to be switched out.

^True, she didn't do anything of substance there when she was employed there anyway. But you must admit it is surreal that she became a celebrity for making a career out of being fired by Trump on three previous occasions.

Here's a reminder that your social media headlines need to be clear. The same foot did not wash up 13 times.

If they would quit throwing that foot back into the water it would not keep washing ashore.

Facebook is experiencing technical issues across its Facebook, Whatsup and Instagram platforms.

All over the world apparently, and for over four hours now.

In the age of "social media", this would constitute a bit of  somewhat noteworthy news.

If you sign into Facebook, you will likely find about 3/4 of the photographs in your feed missing, as well as a good chance of your profile picture and a bunch of your other personal photos gonzo as well.

Presumably they'll all come back once they fix the issue .... presumably.

Oh yeah, it'll be fine. It's just another social experiment, I'm sure ;)

Humans lived without Facebook for 200,000 years. I am sure we can survive a few hours without it.

If you go to your Facebook page and look at photos that are not displaying properly, you'll get some insight into how the photo recognition algorithm catalogues them.

For example, in lieu of the picture you'll see text descriptions like "Image may contain: tree, sky, house, plant and outdoor," and so on. It's quite interesting.

^ I love that the algorithm is identifying whether there is a beard in the photo or not

And that’s just the high level meta data. The algorithm can probably identify several categories of additional meta data such as:

Standing + 5’6” - right hand dominant - holding drink
Drink + alcoholic
Beard + hipster + potential nesting ground + squirrel

It seems like the photos that aren't public are loading just fine. Strange.

I hate it when Black Mirror episodes get things right.

Uh-oh: Silicon Valley is building a Chinese-style social credit system

https://www.fastcomp...l-credit-system

Have you heard about China’s social credit system? It’s a technology-enabled, surveillance-based nationwide program designed to nudge citizens toward better behavior. The ultimate goal is to “allow the trustworthy to roam everywhere under heaven while making it hard for the discredited to take a single step,” according to the Chinese government.

In place since 2014, the social credit system is a work in progress that could evolve by next year into a single, nationwide point system for all Chinese citizens, akin to a financial credit score. It aims to punish for transgressions that can include membership in or support for the Falun Gong or Tibetan Buddhism, failure to pay debts, excessive video gaming, criticizing the government, late payments, failing to sweep the sidewalk in front of your store or house, smoking or playing loud music on trains, jaywalking, and other actions deemed illegal or unacceptable by the Chinese government.

It can also award points for charitable donations or even taking one’s own parents to the doctor.

Punishments can be harsh, including bans on leaving the country, using public transportation, checking into hotels, hiring for high-visibility jobs, or acceptance of children to private schools. It can also result in slower internet connections and social stigmatization in the form of registration on a public blacklist.

China’s social credit system has been characterized in one pithy tweet as “authoritarianism, gamified.” [Full article]

This was actually one of my favourite episodes of Black Mirror. I didn't realize it was meant to be a how-to manual.
