At Niche, you can shop for the best local producers and products while our kitchen prepares you a meal to go (prepped for take-and-make, or ready-to-eat). Or grab a table and a glass of wine or beer and let Niche serve you.

And Mike, there really can only be one place in Broadmead. Somewhere in the village. I wonder if one of the current restaurant tenants is leaving though.

Do you know where in Broadmead?

I don’t. I asked but haven’t heard back

If the Broadmead Village leasing map is up to date, there are two "Coming Soon" slots beside Thrify's

Two long time Vancouver island hospitality industry folks are teaming up to open Niche Grocerant in Broadmead. Yes, I had to look up “grocerant” as well. Brilliant timing for such a venture.

Does nichevictoria.ca sound better than nichesaanich.ca? ;)

The Saanich Association of Lisp Sufferers asked if the name could be changed.

In other grocery news, James Bay’s 100-year-old Niagara Market has re-opened as For Good Measure, a gourmet bulk food and produce business on Menzies Street at Niagara Street.

Owner-operator Max Young, who also runs a For Good Measure location in Cadboro Bay, says the “response from customers at our two locations has been unbelievable,” in light of COVID-19 restrictions which earlier in the year heavily impacted his businesses.

that's a good fit i think.

but does anyone know anything about a grocery store coming to the old fort street post office location?

I'm pretty sure that was just a rumour.

Know it all.
Citified.ca is Victoria's most comprehensive research resource for new-build homes and commercial spaces.

I hope it’ll be a Safeway. I miss the sweet and sour pork from their deli

Out of the way for a grocery store, but that's not what it is. Looks like they're 100% online orders, so a warehouse space in an industrial neighbourhood is exactly what they need.

Nope - only noticed because they had a sandwich board out front. And their web site says hours they are open.

Ah, I see, I wouldn't think to drop in based on the website. The way it's set up implies that all the shopping is online and pickup is an option.

Since I couldn't have Thanksgiving dinner this year, my husband bought himself a lovely boneless, skinless turkey thigh from Oxford, $2.85!  He's a good cook so did all the trimmings including homemade stuffing with herbs from the garden. There was enough for two meals. I challenge any grocery store in Victoria to meet that price. He was just up at Oxford and bought two lovely small chicken breasts for $4. He's trying to find out where they get their chicken as it is so superior to what others sell and at half the price. He was talking to the cashier and she said older folks are coming in in tears. There's no way they can afford much more for their groceries than what they're paying at Oxford, and nice small quantities and sizes of things. The clerk grimaced at the mention of Root Cellar.
