The little 250g drones have no serious limits, no?
Keep it under 400 feet.

I've got a crappy little $300 DJI drone it's quite impressive!
I feel like a loser operating it though.

Can't AI just operate it for you?

How is anyone allowed to fly a drone this close to the airport and why is a news outlet using such a device? Isn't there a 5.6 km minimum distance required? This would make flying a drone pretty much illegal anywhere in Victoria.

News outlets here only use the drones that are under the 250g regulation. Also the reporter for that story took the drone pilot certification course.

What a nice surprise running into pal and ex-CHEK on air news biz personality Hudson Mack while we hit up a great little brekkie place called the Village in Saanich. We had a great chat...always a gentleman Hudson always has been and remains all class. Still lives in the same Mt Tolmie neighborhood as our parent's old place. Looks great he could probably jump back into the studio and in front of the camera if he wished.
Hudson is currently writing a book about the horrific experience of his son being shot in the tragic Las Vegas mass shooting incident of a decade ago.

Not a lot super current here.
At the end of the Dhali and Donnie podcast they muse a bit about if CHEK will cancel their show.
Oh! They are back tomrrow:

CHEK Mic Chek was generally very good when Joe Perkins hosted it; I think he has since been promoted to senior management as News Director. Paul Haysom is ok but I think Joe was a better host on that particular platform.

Isnt the Village restaurant in Oak Bay?
Posted 07 September 2025 - 09:54 AM
There are three locations - Estevan, Royal Oak and Torquay/Shelbourne -> the one we went to. The latter IMO is the best one, it has the most outdoor seating by capacity, an indoor space and two outdoors, separate areas including one that caters specifically to dogs/pets. So pet owners can dine and enjoy with their fur-babies which in that case are still separate from the other non-pet outdoor patio for those who aren't.

That is great to know, did not not realize there were three locations. Thanks for the update.

Agreed. The in depth conversations of local interest were great - like the person that runs the Hero pop-ups etc. As were the panel discussions. And Joe and Kyle's banter was fun too.
The current iteration of MicCHEK has me skipping most episodes. It's lost it's character.
Some of the other podcasts on the list, such as Political Capital, are on summer break.

An interesting observation and one I agree with completely. The present day crew be it MicCHEK but even much more so their online FB page owner, who I believe still works for them, seem to have little to no knowledge and even less interest in the actual history of the station.
On their FB page they recently posted something that irked the hell out of me so I posted back on their public group admonishing them to that effect and making a pointed correction.
Never mind my dad's era (1962-70), which to them clearly must represent the age of the dinosaurs, I notice there is little to nothing referencing even Hudson Mack's time: its not like Hudson is an unknown but whenever they post something online it references ex-staff, ex-on air personalities or events that go back 'maybe' 25-30 years. The station has been around and on air for almost 70 years fer crying out loud.
Ironically I would bet my paycheck we have in storage more CHEK historical memorabilia including tape, film, pictures and correspondece than they do on Kings Road. Even today on my own FB feed I constantly receive DM requests from Parksville to Dallas from Toronto to Australia from (usually) ex-Victorians asking about this or that piece of CHEK history - usually pictures or film - and whether we have it or if I can somehow obtain it for them.
That recent post which very incorrectly referenced a major inaccuracy re dad's old show, Club 6, set me off so I politely but firmly responded setting them straight. Their response was to delete the entire thread, lol...
