Have any of the new developments or city planers placed any emphasis on the inclusion of EV charging stations in new developments??

 

The effort seems negligible in Victoria. Richmond went in guns blazing and requires all residential parking spaces to have outlets installed, whether it's in a townhouse, apartment, or detached house. Vancouver followed suit recently, I believe.

As seniors the risk of heart attack increases with age as we all know.  What most people aren't aware is that your survival from a heart attack is directly linked to how high up you live in a building.

 

Those who lived on the ground or second floor fared best for survivability in recent studies. Data shows 4.2% survived to hospital discharge. Survival dipped to 2.6% on or above the third floor. Above the 16th floor survival was negligible!  The statistics are most grim for those at or above the 25th floor.

My understanding is that if somebody is in cardiac arrest, the only way to bring them back is restarting the hard with a defibrillator within minutes.

Victoria's situation is a bit unusual because most highrise-related heart attacks happen when somebody who lives in a highrise finds out that a new highrise will partially block his view.

Maybe all high rises should be mandated to have at least one elevator that is stretcher capable, and AED's should be required on every floor, perhaps next to the fire alarm box.

So we get upset about changing the road system for 8% of the population, but now we are going to change the entire building code for a similar situation.*

Stretcher sized elevators are already a part of the building code. AEDs are expensive and the pads and batteries expire. If a strata provides AEDs than the strata is required to maintain them and ensure they are in working order.

How many are new buildings covered by these codes.  Victoria along with many other cities in Canada have buildings with elevators not capable of fitting an EMS stretcher. I work in the healthcare field.  If you have a older parent that is looking to move into a condo, apartment ....tower, just consider the facts, that's all.  Delays to establish a proper arrhythmia will lead to permanent damage if not death.

 

The comment about expensive.  How much do you think it costs to treat a stroke or heart attack after the fact.

I spied with my eyes some crane segments being unloaded onto Herald St. This crane may be growing taller soon.

Caught some snaps of the embiggening in progress. I wondered how the crane could be made taller when it was beyond the reach of mobile ones at street level - now I know!
