The butcher is vegan but he sells meat.

Vegan Butcher - one of the reasons English sucks, Anyone can make up a new work or decide a word means the opposite of what it means and it is accepted.

I am a native German speaker and when I read 100 year old German the language is not radically changed.   When I read 100 year old English books I can see how much the language has changed.  I am reading my 11 year old the Narnia series and I have to explain words and terms to him, things that I understood when I was 11 in the mid 1970s.

So, we are stuck with the oxymoron of a vegan butcher

Sure, but Germans would happily string together a new single-word noun that means "Butcher who doesn't cut meat and happens to be a vegan." Except that there is is also probably a 350-year-old law that explicitly describes exactly who can and can't be called a butcher, including details on the type of apron they are required to wear.

I noticed the crane appeared to be cannibalizing itself this morning.

Ya, late this morning I saw a couple of tower segments sitting on the street, and top of the crane being only about as tall as the building.

Ya, late this morning I saw a couple of tower segments sitting on the street, and top of the crane being only about as tall as the building.

The tower crane can only be erected as high as the tallest mobile crane that will fit on the street. The white section is a hydraulic unit that raises the upper portion and allows them to insert more tower sections to reach max height. Dismantle is the reverse process. The tower crane pulls a section and lowers itself down until it can be reached by the mobile crane. The boom and winches are then removed from the ground.

How did Victorians ever allow their fair city to be ruined by that massive monstrosity?*

Hot water storage tanks are visible on the mechanical floor...

And are those sand bags outside some of the suites?  Was water leaking in during those high winds?
