The screen is going dark for Movie Monday, which entertained people with weekly films for just over 26 years.
The man behind the impressive streak is Bruce Saunders, who turned his own experience with mental-health issues into a regular event for others in the same situation. He said he got started on June 14, 1993, with his first movie showing at the Victoria Mental Health Centre’s Eric Martin Pavilion, where there was a room with video projector. It was the main venue from then on.

For now, about 90 per cent of Canadian movie theatres remain closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, according to the Movie Theatre Association of Canada (MTAC), an advocacy organization for the industry representing independent theatre owners and larger chains.
“Revenues are down more than 96 per cent and Canadian cinemas have been shut down longer than those in any other G7 nation,” said executive director Nuria Bronfman in a statement.

At least one major movie theatre company is opening its doors next week, as part of B.C.’s continued COVID-19 restart plan.
Cineplex Theatres has announced movies will be back on the big screens Tuesday, June 15.
“We recognize the new appreciation our guests have for the theatrical experience and we can’t wait to welcome them back to our theatres, as nothing compares to the big screen and big sound that we’ve been missing for so long,” said Sarah Van Lange, executive director of communications.
As part of reopening, Cineplex will be showing highly anticipated new releases, including A Quiet Place Part 2* and Cruella**.

it’s getting good reviews. At least from the lefty crowd.Maid is up today on Netflix. Shot in Victoria.
Netflix’s Maid is the kind of TV drama that stays with you for a long time. The gritty limited series—which is based on Stephanie Land’s 2019 best-selling memoir Maid: Hard Work, Low Pay, And A Mother’s Will to Survive—presents a persistent, troubling look at the hardships of single mother Alexandra Langley (Margaret Qualley). The 10 episodes are unflinching in their portrayal of her poverty, isolation, and fragile emotional well-being. It is also unabashedly hopeful; the show and its protagonist forge ahead with resilience and poignancy. Anchored by a striking lead performance, Maid might just be one of the most hypnotic dramas of the year.

I think Maid is the one that rented the ferry here for their filming. My shop(s) are in the background for the movie’s thumbnail.
Matt.
YES, that's the one. News article today says they spent over $10m locally.
