maybe these two are worth checking out. one battle after another is based on a pynchon novel, which could be good.

One Battle has lower user ratings by about 10% at RT (does better with critics), and earned half as much money as Sinner.

Netflix has announced a groundbreaking acquisition of InterPositive, the artificial intelligence filmmaking technology company founded by Academy Award-winning actor and director Ben Affleck in 2022. This strategic move represents a significant investment in generative AI technology specifically designed for Hollywood production, positioning Netflix at the forefront of technological innovation in the entertainment industry while addressing growing concerns about AI’s role in creative processes.

Netflix’s AI Acquisition Strategy and Industry Implications

The streaming giant confirmed the acquisition Thursday morning, though financial terms remain undisclosed. This development follows Netflix’s established pattern of investing in production technology that enhances creative capabilities rather than replacing human talent. According to industry analysts, the acquisition signals a maturation of AI applications in entertainment, moving beyond experimental phases into practical, production-ready solutions.

Netflix has previously utilized generative AI for special effects in original content, demonstrating the company’s commitment to technological advancement. Elizabeth Stone, Netflix’s chief product and technology officer, emphasized in a statement that their approach to AI focuses on serving creative communities and members. “The InterPositive team is joining Netflix because of our shared belief that innovation should empower storytellers, not replace them,” Stone stated, highlighting the philosophical alignment between the companies.

InterPositive’s Unique Approach to AI Filmmaking Technology

Unlike AI companies developing synthetic performers or fully automated content creation, InterPositive has taken a distinctly different path. The company’s technology centers on assisting production teams with post-production challenges while preserving human creative control. Affleck explained his motivation for founding the company, noting he began contemplating AI’s impact on filmmaking in 2022.

Are we supposed to believe the actor himself is behind this? That in itself is a tall tale. C’mon now.

Comments from Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams about Victoria are drawing attention online after the Canadian actor described the city in colourful terms during an appearance in Paris over the weekend.

Speaking while attending a Balenciaga show, Williams joked about B.C.’s capital, where he’s filming the upcoming television series Yaga, while discussing his filming schedule.

“I was filming a show and it’s very stabilizing,” he said, before adding: “It’s like 30 minutes away from Vancouver, dead as f**k, old people.”

Or maybe he was referring to the dead people you see lying on the streets sometimes.

Downtown at 7PM on a Tuesday night isn’t exactly bumpin’. You’re lucky to see another human on Government Street, our pedestrian high street, supposedly.

Whatever happened to the pedestrian counters?

Ya, you don’t see old people strolling around at all. Way too scary. The last time I was downtown I saw a lot of drug people. Definitely wasn’t bumping.

Victoria is a sleepy little city. Most stores are closed by 5pm. There isn’t much night life. I’ve found what people think of Victoria has more to do with their life experience than with Victoria itself.

If you’ve lived in any bigger city (even, say, Winnipeg) then you think Victoria is quite small and boring and possibly provincial.

If you’ve moved here from Port Alberni then you probably think it’s a bustling metropolis with amazing culture and dining and entertainment.

And Winnipeg is a backwater sleepy hick town with vast flocks of mosquitos, if you're from Montreal.

Montreal is boring if you're from Chicago.

Chicago just doesn't cut it if you're from LA. And LA just doesn't have the vibe of NYC.

Yes, and Victoria will be boring and sleepy to everyone who’s lived in any of those places.
Unless you grew up in Woss, or Nelson. Then you think it’s a posh capital city. (It’s really not).
