Like Cecil Planedin who operates from behind the Fernwood Inn. No name on his workshop, just an old Dukabor guy who can build or fix anything. No phone number to contact him, you just have to catch him in, and get along with him.

Good stories too.

^Does he work in the nude?

Nope - but he has relatives who used to march in the nude.

^That's good. You definitely want your pants on when you're working that thickness planer. Nice to hear about local craftsmanship.

Well they used to have stuff in stock - now all they have is the display items and they order in whatever you want. That sounds like a company without available credit.

Having said that - I also like the store and service, but 6mile, Modern Furniture, Lane Furniture etc will beat any price on the same merchandise.

You must work for the company, cause they own all 3 stores. I have been into 6mile,,they are rude and they sell junk, I seen the same stuff at Costco, so I asked the manager at Costco about it,he told me the owner of 6 Mile comes in and buys furniture and sells it at his store for more. Not against the law mind you, but not good business practice. Never will I go to any of their stores.

Not only is buying stuff at Costco legal, they have business memberships where you can avoid paying the PST so you can remit it later, just like you would with any supplier.

There's nothing wrong with buying Costco product and marking it up. We do it with computer products since Costco's retail price can sometimes be less than our supplier's wholesale price. Heck, FutureShop has lower prices than our suppliers.

In that case, Costco is simply acting just like any other supplier to 6 Mile.

That guy is a stud. If you look at the wagon wheel chandelier in the pergola of the new patio at the Fernwood Inn, he did that - and it's absolutely gorgeous. He also refinished a bunch of the patio tables.

How do you rationalize that statement?

I know they are all owned by the same family and each one is run by a different son, doesn't mean I work there.

They sell the same stuff as Ashleys does as well as other brands, some inexpensive - some not. You have to be able to discern the difference and check prices.

I guess then you are saying Costco also sells junk.

Re the price matching - we got a quote for a table at Ashleys and went to 6 mile to see if they would match or better it - they said the quote from Ashleys was time limited (it was a weekend only sale) and we would have to go back to Ashleys and have them confirm they would offer the same price today (a Monday). We went to Ashleys and they said they would honour the price they originally quoted - so we bought it there.

I will wholeheartedly disagree with you!!!!!!!!!.

They sell some extremely good quality merchandise and it is all covered by the Costco forever warrenty.

There have been very few items that I returned, and only a couple for a quality problem, out of thousands purchased over the years.

I feel Costco brings in furniture at good prices which is great for Victoria (and area) Other Furniture stores should not be able to buy from them and take it to their own stores to sell at inflated prices. What I would like to know who covers the warranty---The Manufacturer ,Costco or ???? FYI.I was at Ashleys today and they show no signs of closing,I asked my sales lady and she explained that furniture is ordered in daily. Nothing to do with bad credit, its how all Ashley Stores operate.

At the risk of sounding like a Libertarian, are you suggesting the Government implement a tangle of red tape in order to tell stores who to buy from? If someone wants to buy cheap furniture at inflated prices I say go for it.

Besides, I don't have a Costco membership and have no intention of getting one so maybe buying stuff from a middleman isn't such a bad idea.
