B.C. sports and environment groups latest to feel B.C. budget cuts
B.C. sports and environmental groups are the latest organizations to feel the pain of provincial government budget cuts.
Housing Minister Rich Coleman says many sports and environmental groups awaiting government grants from gaming revenues will not get some or any of the money they are expecting.
Coleman says he could not immediately confirm the amounts being cut, but he did not dispute a $10-million drop in the sports budget, from $29 million to $19 million.
He says environmental groups who have three-year signed agreements with the government for gaming grants will get their money, but others without those agreements won't get anything.
A high school coach of Olympic gold medal wrestling champ Carol Huyhn says he depended on government gaming grants to ensure success for his wrestlers in northern British Columbia.
Joe Sullivan says he feels compelled to speak out in favour of the sporting grants.
