That brutal corner between Leigh Road and Westshore Parkway along the TCH is the scene of a head-on crash. The highway is currently closed in both directions.

It wouldn't be a brutal corner if Victoria drivers could learn to keep all of their car between the lines of their own lane. That's a HUGE issue around these parts.

Or speed. That corner is notorious for speeding. It freaks the hell out of me, to be honest. I can't believe a median wasn't installed when the Leigh Road interchange was built. Southbound traffic doesn't need two lanes there, one in each direction will suffice until you hit the interchange.

Isn't the plan still to four-lane and centre-barrier from Leigh Road to West Shore Parkway? Or did that project die with the Libs?

At about 10:40 a.m., a member of the Capital Regional District’s Integrated Road Safety Unit was enforcing speed limits on the highway, said Cpl. Mike Halskov, media relations officer with traffic services, RCMP E Divison. The officer, working on foot with a radar gun, spotted a vehicle going “considerably” above the posted speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour, said Halskov. The officer then used a hand-carried stop sign to stop all traffic on the highway, so that he could direct the offending vehicle from the inside lane of the highway to the outside lane, said Halskov.

The bus, travelling on the outside lane of the highway, then hit the rear of another vehicle in the same lane as it was slowing down, said Halskov.

So Chris Foord, CRD Traffic Safety Committee co-chair on CFAX this afternoon that he stated that he absolutely in no way supports the Civil Liberties Association and that they wouldn't get a dime of donations out of him.

Yikes.

They were discussing breath testing for alcohol, Mark Brennae mentioned something about the BCCLA having something to say about some of the new rules, Chris went off on a tangent about how the Civil Liberties Association comes up with stupid ideas like encouraging people to use care when processing data/transactions online because of US servers, yada yada, then said they'd never get a dime from him in donations.

so he supports “no cause” breath testing. that’s not surprising.

A pretty serious incident occurred just before 630 along Old Island Highway. A witness tells us a person tried to run across the highway and was struck by a vehicle.

I was at the scene moments after the incident occurred and saw emergency personnel working on a victim on the road. Collision analysis crews are on scene.

Almost 500m between crosswalks here. NACTO suggests a lower spacing between crosswalks (120-200' or 30-60m) for urban areas. Given the sub-urban nature of the strip and the lower pedestrian traffic, could probably have a higher distance, but 1/2km is still too much.

The individual was reportedly coming from McDonald’s. There is a crosswalk 140 meters away.

There’s literally nothing between the crosswalk at JDF and the road where Burger King is on, so either way you’re walking to either of those crosswalks (once you’ve jaywalked).

Was there shortly after as well. Literally shortly after. No first responders there yet. So must of happened minutes before I drove by. The car had the passengers side of the front window crushed in and the person was thrown to the side of the road.

Have to agree, once the jaywalk occurred, the only option was to walk in the direction of a cross walk that they could of used safely.

On the plus side, the smoky BBQ chips will have a more authentic flavour.

The driver of a Frito-Lay potato chip delivery truck was unharmed after the vehicle he was driving went up in flames early Monday morning on the Millstream overpass in Langford...

pedestrians get hit when the do something wrong. pedestrian collisions are nearly all preventable - by pedestrians taking more care.

and if she walks her 11-year-old to school I hate to see how else she bubble wraps the kid.

Like the 11 year old mentioned in the letter who was hit in a crosswalk by a speeding driver? Or the 10 year old hit in a Delta crosswalk yesterday by a driver who didn't want to wait for their windshield to defog before leaving home? What additional care should those pedestrians have taken?
