and on top of that he pulled the thing up that steep hill. oh man. hope he didn’t intentionally pull in front of the cyclist to avoid breaking his momentum.

I was thinking that he may not have even attempted to stop given that steep incline, and now we’ve learned the cyclist was pinned by the SUV.

With a few passengers and cargo those Suburbans weigh 7,000 pounds. It’s mind boggling to think he was pulling it with a Buick crossover.

Reality is that even a train only requires a few hundred pounds of force to get moving.  Who knows how far he was intending to tow the Suburban...

It’s not so much that, but the potential for bending the frame. You certainly wouldn’t damage the transmission after only a short jaunt but so much else can go wrong.

Look up "tow strap fail" on YouTube to see endless examples.

I suppose no-one in authority in the terminal property noticed or interfered with this moron's plan.

This is a wild YouTube video from someone’s Sunday bike trip - Victoria Fat Bike Rider to be exact.

Cyclist blows through a light, raccoon gets nailed by a car and he rides by the tow line accident seconds later. :(

Yikes, based on that video it looks like the cyclist was pinned under the front passenger side of the Suburban.

Resilient raccoon though!

Car accident at Windsor and Newport today. If an intersection needs a yellow flashing light it needs a four way stop.

Not sure if that had anything to do with the incident however.

High speed accident at Douglas and Bay last night. Horrific video but apparently everyone survived.

wow.  once car that actually did not even bear the brunt of the impact got completely flipped over.  low-slung cyclist with some baggage onboard was lucky to be 0.5 seconds late to the party.

that guy really was leaving esquimalt in a hurry.

that's actually a fair amount of traffic for 3:12am if the time stamp is right.  i take it it's the brake/mechanical ship video from the se corner?

12:12 AM - the poster explained that the DVR defaults to eastern time.

some people on social media are indicating the truck was being chased by police and that's one of the reasons they got there so fast (under 1 minute).

Explains why the driver ran away from the scene so quickly.

🚔VicPD car chase leads to multi-vehicle collision🚔

Victoria BC – Officers are continuing their investigation into a serious early morning collision.

This morning, shortly after 12:00 a.m., officers attempted to pull over a vehicle in the area of Gorge Road and Rock Bay Avenue. The driver failed to stop for officers and fled at high speed colliding with three other vehicles at Douglas and Bay Streets causing significant damage to all the vehicles involved. The three other drivers were all transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The man fled on foot from the scene and officers arrested a suspect nearby.

The investigation is in the early stages and officers are looking for any witnesses to the collision or people who have video of the incident who have not yet spoken with investigators.

The Independent Investigation Office was notified and have asserted jurisdiction. No further information will be released at this time.

Interesting to note that both of the two cyclists in that video were behaving badly.

The first one was cycling southbound in the northbound lane and the other wanker was riding on the sidewalk and then the crosswalk. I’ll bet that guy is out buying some new shorts today.

There must be no rules after midnight.

^ Imagine you were driving northbound on Douglas and were attempting to make a right hand turn onto Bay and having to negotiate those two cyclists at the same time in the dark of night.

Just saying.
