Wow, that’s quite the detour. There will be plenty of people along Saanich Road wondering where their bus is.

would be nice if they got 51 drivers to pick people up along Saanich although that would only help as long as they're running

A black Mercedes cut off a white pickup this morning southbound on Quadra. The pickup driver was so enraged he was screaming at the driver, "I'M F*CKING GOING TO HUNT YOU DOWN". The Mercedes driver just shrugged and carried on but the pickup was in such rage mode he cut off a young woman on a motor scooter.

Calm it down out there, folks.

I was born in Canada. I am not a settler.

The 'native' Americans believe that the land is free for everyone and it cannot be owned.

The 'native' Canadians believe that they own all the land and it cannot be free for anyone else.

Every human in North America is descended from a settler. Some settlers were just fashionably late.

...Every human in North America is descended from a settler...

As is every human in Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Exactly.

And when they find the ancient human Mars ruins, then every human on Earth will have become a settler.  ;)

Not a Victoria issue, but some interesting news from the mainland. Vancouver appears to be considering Mobility Pricing in the downtown core. Basically, road users would need to pay a toll to enter the core (residents exempt), similar to what London has in place.

It sounds like a dump truck has crashed on Highway 14 east of Kangaroo Road, and there may have been a death.

Police arrest man covered in blood on heels of significant Saanich crash into woods

https://www.vicnews....ash-into-woods/

As police continue to piece together the incident, drugs or alcohol impairment is not yet ruled out, nor are components related to mental health.

“The health and safety of this individual is first and foremost. The investigation will take some time to paint the entire picture of what happened this afternoon. The impact this vehicle sustained as a result of the crash was significant and it is remarkable that anyone was able to walk away,” Anastasiades said.

Typo in the first paragraph, it was the 200-block of Skinner Street.

VicPD Traffic Officers Investigating Fatal Single Vehicle Crash

Victoria, BC – VicPD Traffic officers are investigating a fatal, single vehicle crash in the 200-block of Catherine Street early this morning.

Just before 3 a.m. this morning, Patrol officers were called to the 200-block of Skinner Street for a report of a single vehicle crash. The vehicle was reported to be on fire and the sole occupant suffering from life-threatening injuries. Nearby residents had rushed to the assistance of the driver and were providing emergency first aid. When officers arrived, they discovered that the vehicle had struck a hydro pole. Officers took over emergency first aid until BC Emergency Health Services paramedics arrived and transported the driver to hospital.

Unfortunately, the driver succumbed to their injuries. Our thoughts are with their family today.

The road was closed for several hours as our VicPD’s Collision Reconstruction Team and VicPD Traffic officers gathered evidence for their investigation.

If you have information about this incident and have not yet spoken to officers, please call our Report Desk at (250) 995-7654, ext. 1.

Know it all.

One person has been seriously injured after a vehicle went off a loading ramp at the Tsawwassen ferry terminal, plunging approximately 30 feet to the pavement below.

The incident occurred just after 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, during what a B.C. Ferries spokesperson called a “routine discharge” of a Nanaimo-to-Tsawwassen sailing.

yikes.

No charges laid after dramatic 4-car crash

CTV News Vancouver Island

Published Tuesday, December 15, 2020

VICTORIA - The BC Prosecution Service says that no charges will be laid in a high-speed, four-vehicle crash that sent multiple people to hospital in downtown Victoria last year.

The crash occurred shortly after midnight on Aug. 24, 2019 at the intersection of Douglas Street and Bay Street. Surveillance footage of the crash showed a truck driving through the intersection, causing significant damage to other vehicles, nearly hitting a passing cyclist.

At the time, Victoria police said the crash was caused by a truck driver who was fleeing from police in the Gorge area.

VicPD said that officers tried to pull over the truck when it “fled at a high rate of speed.”

The Independent Investigations Office of BC later confirmed in a review of the incident that responding officers did not pursue the vehicle, as is police protocol, and the crash was “the direct result of the actions of the pickup’s driver.”

After the crash occurred, police say that the driver attempted to flee the scene of the collision on foot. He was arrested the same night by officers.

While no one involved in the crash suffered life-threatening injuries, several GoFundMe campaigns were set up following the collision for victims of the crash who were unable to work due to injuries sustained in the incident.

The injuries included a “serious concussion” for one driver of the crash, a nurse and mother of three, as well as “debilitating injuries and severe pain” that lingered in another driver, who reportedly also suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder from the crash, according to the online fundraisers.

Now, the BC Prosecution Service says that no charges are being approved for the crash due to limited evidence.

“After reviewing all the available evidence the assessing Crown Counsel was unable to conclude that the charge assessment standard was met,” the service told CTV News in a statement Monday.

The charge assessment is a two-part test, according to the service, which includes “a substantial likelihood of conviction; and, if so, whether the public interest requires a prosecution.”

I actually suspect they cannot prove who the driver was. despite police arresting a suspect later that night. but not immediately at the scene.
