She said she knew both men who died, who have five children between them.

She knows the men. They are intertwined with the island. Yet the newspaper article can’t or won’t name them.

He said the men, who were in their 40s, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police have said alcohol and speed may have been contributing factors in the crash
I suspect we all thought that.

Family members of a California man said it was no surprise his final act was one of compassion, after he exited his car at a busy intersection in order to help a mother duck and her ducklings cross the road but was himself struck and killed.
When he spotted the ducks, Casey Rivara stopped his car at a red light and got out to help them. Rivara made sure traffic in all directions was stopped, witnesses said, then escorted the duck and her babies to the other side of the street around 8.15pm last Thursday in Rocklin, north-east of Sacramento.
“All the ducks made it safely across,” said Jude Peterson, 11, who was watching with a carpool group after track practice. “He did something amazing.”

Island District, BC Highway Patrol, Road Safety Unit
2023-05-31
File #BCHP CRD IRSU 2023-888
On May 21, 2023 at approximately 10:00am, an officer with BC Highway Patrol – Capital Regional District – Integrated Road Safety Unit (BCHP-CRD-IRSU) was conducting speed enforcement in an unmarked police vehicle on Highway # 1 near Aspen Road in Malahat, BC, when she observed a newer model white and black Ferrari with Alberta licence plates traveling at a high rate of speed in the Northbound lanes. The Ferrari had just passed several vehicles and quickly caught the attention of the officer who established that the Ferrari was traveling at a speed of 137 km/h within the posted 80 km/h zone.
After bringing the vehicle safely to a stop, the officer identified the driver as an Alberta woman in her 20’s and she was issued a violation ticket under the BC Motor Vehicle Act for excessive speeding. The owner, a man in his 30’s also from Alberta arrived at the scene shortly thereafter to collect the driver as well as the paperwork indicating that his vehicle had been impounded for seven days.
BC Highway Patrol would like to remind motorists that May is High-Risk Driving Awareness month in BC, and police agencies throughout the Province are making our highways safer together by stepping up enforcement of unsafe driving behaviours.

You need a fair amount of speed to cause a rollover like this, it shouldn't happen if they were going the speed limit IMO.

@ChiefManak
Written 1000’s of tickets but never heard this before. MC using the narrow shoulder of road to pass long, long line of cars stopped in heavy traffic. Reason - "I’m first-aid trained & I always do this in case there’s a crash. Someone could be having a heart attack." Ticket issued.

https://www.vicnews....rag-race-strip/
“I live on Dallas Rd, and the number of cars I witness speeding by at highway speeds is insane,” Blandford wrote. “The limit is 30km/h! Some folks drag race this strip as well. We need more speed/traffic enforcement in the city, where the vulnerable road users are.”
Pretty sure almost all drag racing requires at least two lanes heading in the same direction.
