the responses will be along the lines of "how dare you.  you don't know anything about our family".

except i probably do.  if you are a 4-person two car family in suburban saanich and one is your suburban and one is your jeep i bet you also take lots of vacations by jet and have a house that uses much more energy than another 4-person family that has no car and lives in fernwood.

it's easy to see who uses more carbon.  extremely easy in most cases.

Mayor Helps lives in Fernwood and has traveled to New York, Germany, Montreal, Ottawa and Edmonton so far this year, not including other trips. You’d be quite wrong in your assessment of her household by looking at it from the street. Does she even own a vehicle?

Further to that, Helps’ landlord operated not one but two Airbnb’s from that single-family-home where mayor Helps says she rents the upper floor. Four residences, one vehicle in the driveway, but that home’s energy use would have been quite high.

this will be the big story today.

Maybe ... but will any media outlet that takes car ads or broadcasts to drivers want to draw attention to the leafleter's campaign?

In any case, it will be easier for other reporters to follow up if they go to the original Facebook post where this is being discussed: https://www.facebook...49244178804218/

no she does not.

yes there are exceptions to the rule but come on.  compare a typical claremont high school family with a esquimalt or vic high family.  i can generalize and be pretty accurate.

there are exceptions.  i get it.  we all get it.  but census profiles will show you consistent generalities i speak of.

you can't for example say "most f350 listings on craigslist are in fernwood".

So why generalize if you also need throw in exceptions and caveats to qualify your generalizations in response to people saying “you don’t know me.” They’re right. We have no idea.

if i walk through town today and tag 100 bikes with a note saying "thanks for saving the planet" that note that showed up in fairfield on 100 8-cylinder cars i'm mostly getting it right.

that's all i'm saying.

Or most of the people will snicker, then cycle up to their driveway after getting some exercise and take their Suburban to the mall. You don't know anything about them.

The car is owned by her landlord and not the Mayor :-)

those are both glacier media stories.  and are repeated in other glacier outlets like castanet and the courier.  also at daily hive.

but yes it appears the biggest players did not cover the story.  the sun/province cbc and ctv.

Have to say that I m impressed. After the ice age hoax and the Y2K hoax the 'left' has finally come up with the perfect emergency. No matter happens, they can link it to "climate change". Too cold, too hot, more hurricanes, fewer hurricanes, sunspots, earthquakes, etc, etc are all a function of climate change and all you need to do is buy their movie, book, podcast or show tickets and you can help the cause and make them the same money that Al Gore made!

How many homes in Fernwood still burn oil, are poorly insulated, burn gas to mow their watered lawns, etc, etc.

Socialism is about forcing other people to make changes.

While making the middle class pay for it.

Jeepers, LJ, this just jogged my memory.

On my bus ride home yesterday a random guy turns to me before getting off the bus and says something to the effect of “it’s going to get cold in the coming years. Don’t believe what you hear about rising temperatures.”

And off he went into the darkness 🤷‍♀️

Climate protesters set to block traffic on Douglas street today at the times colonist office from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Will VicPD once again do nothing while they block traffic at the busiest time of day on our busiest street?

i guess now we see why they chose this time.  the plan was a traffic jam at least as much as it was a tc protest.

Does VicPD set up CCTV cameras for these protests or are those reserved for Remembrance Day ceremonies and Christmas parades?

VicPD usually releases a statement/warning that CCTV cameras will be in effect. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if they film using handheld cameras and body-worn cameras.
