How do we know if tip rates affect your service other than anecdotal reports? Tips happen after service.
In many countries I think a tip amount is built into the price? I have received very good service frequently in countries where tipping is not expected.

I don't tip for any counter service and if the machine forces me to pick an amount the amount I pick is 0.
There was a tip jar in a gas station I went to the other day, I pump my own gas and you want a tip? I don't think so.

There must be a manual for restaurant servers that claims the tip will be higher if they ask, “Any plans for the rest of the evening?” while the customer pays the bill.
This might work with younger customers, but many people over 55 find that question nosy and insincere. On top of that, it’s boring to be asked the same thing every single time.
Maybe servers would earn a higher tip if they introduced a topic they actually care about, or said nothing at all.
