Anyone know what type of police officer these brown shirt guys are?

They are sporting a badass black SUV and this one is packing a serious mullet.

Are those RCMP specialized units, maybe? There is also a combat motif some VicPD wear. Those might be K-9 units but they look very militarized, too.

the desert fatigues must be so the camo matches the summer drought. Definitely not just to make the cops feel like badasses…

Ya and it looks like they are packing two guns. Maybe one is for plastic bullets and the other is for blasting some holes right through you.

I think we figured it out. Does the brown uniform’s hat state ERT?

That might be a tactical officer, doing regular duty until an ERT call comes in?

Also, note the wrap-around push bumper. That’s an ERT response unit.

Seemed like a lot for an attendance of a guy sleeping on the sidewalk.

I thought I saw "Police" on their reflective jackets.

I see “RAME” on one vest, or a part of PARAMEDIC.

Yup I think you nailed it. I didn't pick up on that but I had another shot on my camera that confirms it..

You know I was a bit impressed with how these guys rolled. A pair of Cool Hand Lukes keeping an eye out on what's goin' on. There was a touch of swagger.

Here is also another shot that includes his partner Z24 updating the call. I like seeing these guys on our sidewalks. You also appear to be correct about Neon Biker. He doesn't seem to be packing any heat.

Unless its changed VicPD does not actually refer to their specialized response unit as "ERT" in the classic popularized sense of the term. They call it, or used to anyway , GVERT (Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team), which dates back to the 1970's. It is or was comprised of resources from multiple forces; regardless this incident could admittedly involve another unit altogether as I agree a single person sleeping or passed out would not necessitate a callout for the GVERT unit, unless there was something else far more serious going on not immediately obvious from these pictures.

Yeah, interesting.

ERT formally is the RCMP squad used by the RCMP. I don’t know if any RCMP are a part of GVERT. It’s interesting that this fellow has an ERT hat. Could they be RCMP working in Victoria?

Then there’s the RCMP gang-focused UGET team associated to the mainland, which also operates here.

Know it all.

^ & ^^ ya that’s what I thought too. Why would mullet be going through a backpack? Why are the two ladies dealing with the sleeper?

Why aren’t these dudes wearing blue like they did at the BoM shootout?

There is more going on here than meets the eye.

The mother of a 20-year-old man killed by a Victoria police officer more than a decade ago is pushing ahead with a lawsuit against the officers involved in his fatal shooting.

Rhett Mutch was shot in the neck on Nov. 1, 2014, after Marney Mutch called 911 because her son had broken a basement window to enter her Dallas Road home.

Marney Mutch first filed a civil suit in 2016 against the officers and the City of Victoria, but her claim was not valid according to the court’s rules. The city applied in 2023 to have the suit dismissed.

In March, a judge gave Mutch 45 days to amend her notice of claim to comply with the court’s rules.

Mutch has since had a lawyer take on the case and updated her civil claim.

The Independent Investigations Office is looking into the Victoria Police Department’s response to a weapons call that occurred on Friday.

VicPD stated in a release that around 3:50 p.m. Friday, “Patrol officers responded to Douglas Street and Pandora Avenue for a weapons call.”

According to VicPD, “During the course of the arrest, police deployed a less lethal round.”

Does every PD launch an IIO case when a less lethal round is deployed? Or is it just VicPD?

When a member of the public is seriously injured or killed by police actions I think it’s automatic.
