The Grammy-nominated rapper Afroman won a defamation lawsuit filed by seven Ohio sheriff’s deputies who sued him over music videos in which he used home security footage to mock their raid of his home.

“We did it, America! Yeah, we did it! Freedom of speech! Right on! Right on!” the 51-year-old rapper, born Joseph Foreman, shouted outside the courthouse after the Wednesday evening verdict. He later posted the clip to social media.

The case tested the limits of parody and the license artists can take in social commentary directed at public figures. The deputies, collectively, sought nearly $4 million in damages.

“No reasonable person would expect a police officer not to be criticized. They’ve been called names before,” defense lawyer David Osborne said in closing arguments for the rapper and comedian, known for his breakout 2000 hit, “Because I Got High.”

The Afroman Situation Is Hilarious

In Episode 6, Ben Shapiro takes on the most important stories that are re-shaping the global order: Afroman’s free speech victory in court, a major Bachelorette franchise fail, and Matt Fradd’s official Catholic say-so on the best biblical movies. Plus, Savy pulls up her OG Disney channel faves, and Ben DESTROYS the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

VicPD has announced a sudden press event dealing with their pro-Palestine protest escorts. The press event happens soon, leaving little time for protestors to organize, unironically.

The amount of police resources this has consumed is staggering, with these protests producing absolutely no quantifiable impact on any issue, other than costing taxpayers millions of dollars.

VicPD:

The Victoria Police Department (VicPD) is announcing a transition in its operational support for the Palestine marches, prioritizing officer wellness, and sustainable policing. VicPD has supported this protest for 126 consecutive weeks, requiring more than 10,000 hours of police resources.

This decision allows VicPD to continue providing effective public safety while ensuring the long-term health of our workforce.

VicPD Chief Constable Fiona Wilson, and Inspector Conor King, Officer in Charge of the Operational Planning Section, will be available to talk with the media about the decision, the impact on staffing and officer wellness, and VicPD’s commitment to respectful engagement, transparency, and upholding peaceful, lawful and safe protests.

I don't get it.

These protest marches are making officers ill?

You cannot shut down peaceful protest, but you might be able to somewhat regulate it or ask for permits or that it be done without blocking streets (anyone else needs a street block permit).

I would not be surprised if the megaphones screaming into their ears is having an impact. These protests are meant to be disruptive and to antagonize, so who knows how many skirmishes there are over the span of a few hours.

As of April 4, VicPD will no longer provide traffic control or related police resources for the street portion of the demonstration.

In 2023, VicPD monitored 71 demonstrations throughout the year. In 2024, that number nearly doubled to 130.

[...]

Police say they remain committed to protecting the right to peaceful assembly but are urging demonstrators to avoid marching on roadways, citing what they describe as “serious and immediate” safety risks.

Press release:

The Victoria Police Department (VicPD) announced today a transition in its operational approach to the weekly Palestine marches. After deploying officers for more than two years to maintain public safety during these demonstrations, VicPD is implementing this change to protect the health and well‑being of its officers while continuing to uphold the right to peaceful assembly.
Over this period, VicPD has dedicated more than 10,000 hours of officer time to managing these events. This transition is necessary to safeguard the well‑being of the workforce and ensure the department can continue meeting public safety needs across our communities.
“We recognize the passion and commitment of those participating in these marches,” said VicPD Chief Constable Fiona Wilson. “This decision is not a judgment on the merits of their cause, but a necessary step to ensure sustainable policing and protect the long‑term health of our officers.”
Beginning March 28, 2026, officers will share information with participants and businesses about the changes to operational support. VicPD has informed key community partners, including representatives from the City of Victoria, the Muslim and Jewish community leadership, and demonstration organizers.
Effective April 4, 2026, VicPD will no longer provide traffic control or related police resources for the street portion of the demonstration.
VicPD remains fully committed to protecting the right to peaceful assembly but strongly urges all participants not to march on roadways due to the serious and immediate safety risks this creates. We will continue to engage openly and consistently to ensure this transition is thoughtful, well understood, and as smooth as possible. We are sincerely grateful to community members and business partners for their ongoing support, understanding, and collaboration as we move forward together.

So now they will just walk on the street with no police escort I guess.

This isn’t even close to “policing” as per the definition (and taxpayers expectations).

Extremely bad look for VicPD, and even further deterioration of the downtown core in the form of increased (but “by design”) lawlessness.

Just arrest them all for blocking the roadway and your escort duty is over.

That’s likely the end game here. Arrests will come, no charges will eventually be laid, but a bunch of young people will end up with their names in the system and their futures will be hindered because of it. Regardless of charges or a conviction, once you’re in the system, you’re in the system. Employers do ask, “have you ever been arrested?”

Extinction Rebellion quickly folded its protest activities once the reality of what they had caused sunk in. No word on how the chap is doing, who fell onto the highway from some sort of wooden structure ER setup on Highway 17.

No charges laid after Port Alberni RCMP recommend charges against own officer

Port Alberni RCMP forwarded recommended charges against its own officer to the BC Prosecution Service, which now says charges will not be laid. The incident occurred May 14, 2025, during which a man who was being held in police custody suffered a 5cm laceration on his head after he was pushed by a Port Alberni RCMP officer.

IIO is seeking Witnesses to an Incident in Nanaimo (2026-031)

March 13, 2026

Case: 2026-031

Incident Date: February 3, 2026
Location: Nanaimo
Detachment: Nanaimo
Agency: RCMP
Incident Classification: Serious Harm
Case Status: Open - Investigation in Progress

The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) is seeking witnesses to an incident that occurred in Nanaimo on February 2, 2026.

Initial information provided by police states that shortly before 6 p.m., Nanaimo RCMP officers responded to a 911 call about a woman who may have been impaired and was causing a disturbance outside a building on Boxwood Road.

Officers arrived and took the woman into custody before placing her in a police vehicle for transport to RCMP cells.

At around 6:45 p.m., BC Emergency Health Services was called to the Nanaimo RCMP detachment after officials noticed the woman had suffered an injury. Police reported the woman’s injury was the result of self-harm, which may have occurred while she was in the back of the police vehicle.

She was then taken to a hospital for assessment and treatment of her injuries.

The IIO was notified shortly after the incident and began an investigation.

There are two factors that the IIO considers at the beginning of each investigation:

If there has been an injury that meets the threshold of serious harm, as defined by the Police Act, or a death; and
If there is a connection between the serious harm/death and officer action or inaction.

If both conditions are met, the investigation will continue to examine all available evidence to determine what occurred. At the conclusion of the investigation, the chief civilian director will consider whether there are reasonable grounds to believe that an offence may have occurred.

The IIO asks that any witnesses who have information regarding this matter to please contact the IIO at our Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.

Does nobody check to see if the colours match on these uniforms? There is a running joke in the Canadian military of two shades of a colour, because the pants would need a bigger size but the blazer stayed the same, so over time the material doesn’t match.

It’s important to honour these individuals the right way. No stone should be left unturned.

Victoria Police are asking participants of the weekly Palestine demonstrations to stay on legislature grounds and sidewalks following some traffic disruptions last week.

The weekend of April 4 marked the first time that VicPD did not escort protesters in more than two years – or a total of 126 consecutive weeks, totalling more than 10,000 hours.

Moving forward, VicPD says it will closely monitor the demonstrations but will not be providing traffic control or escort services, and asks participants to stay off the road.

Instead of asking them to stay off the road, why don't they tell them they will be arrested if they stray onto the road?
