^ I’ll bet that’s also never in any other police statement about an arrest in other circumstances.

West Shore RCMP is referring questions about the matter to the RCMP E Division, headquartered in Surrey.
Sgt. Vanessa Munn of the RCMP E Division said the division is not in a position to comment, as the matter is before the courts.
For those keeping track, that’s 3 passings of the buck, leading to a dead end.

Well one of the two last guys she spoke about in similar situations at a big high profile press conference that ensured national headlines killed himself 2 days later. Maybe this time she is more careful.

Sgt. Vanessa Munn of the RCMP E Division said the division is not in a position to comment, as the matter is before the courts.
Wilson said she is limited in what she can share as the criminal investigation is continuing.
VicPD members were informed about the arrest on Friday morning.
Kayiatos is being supported through union engagement, peer support and human resources as he moves through the “challenging and difficult court process,” Wilson said.
The matter has been referred to the Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner.
The Victoria City Police Union didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

This chief has some desecretiion on whether the suspension is paid or not. I see that’s not noted.
VicPD says Kayiatos is currently suspended with pay, and that his duty status is “subject to continual review and assessment.”

Provincial Court Dismisses Traffic Matter Involving Central Saanich Police Member
Central Saanich, BC — The Central Saanich Police Service confirms that a traffic-related charge against Corporal Phil DiBattista has been dismissed by the Provincial Court of British Columbia.
The charge stemmed from a May 21, 2024, on-duty incident in which a cyclist was struck by a marked Central Saanich Police vehicle on Wallace Drive.
As reported during court proceedings, the cyclist sustained injuries that required medical attention, though they were not deemed to meet the threshold of “serious harm” under the Police Act. The incident was investigated by the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO), which subsequently referred the matter to the BC Prosecution Service for charge assessment.
A charge of driving without due care and attention under the Motor Vehicle Act was approved in May 2025 following that review.
After hearing the evidence, the Provincial Court dismissed the charge on May 11, 2026.
Chief Ian Lawson “The Central Saanich Police Service recognizes that this incident was concerning to members of our community and to the individuals directly involved. The Service is committed to accountability and transparency and acknowledges the role of independent oversight and the judicial process in reviewing such matters. We respect the court’s decision and remain committed to accountability, transparency, and the safe operation of our vehicles at all times.”
With the court proceedings now concluded, the Central Saanich Police Service considers this matter closed and will not be providing further comment on the specifics of the case.
The Service remains committed to ensuring the safe operation of police vehicles and maintaining public confidence in policing.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says a senior and two police officers are injured after a driver allegedly rammed several vehicles and drove along a sidewalk in the city's West End neighbourhood Friday morning.
The senior is in hospital in critical condition, and the two officers have also been taken to hospital, according to a VPD news release.
Police say they received a report around 5:30 a.m. PT of a driver acting erratically around Comox and Broughton streets and the Nelson Park dog area.

That’s Cst. Horsley! When did he leave Saanich?
After his retirement in February 2022, Chris was enticed to take on a "Special Municipal Constable" position with the Oak Bay Police. In his spare time you'll find him in his shop working on some of the vintage cars he treasures!

No charges for police officer who fired at man in stolen loader in Duncan
The skid-steer loader involved in the 2023 police incident in Duncan.
A N Cowichan/Duncan Mountie won’t face charges in the 2023 shooting of a man in hospital pyjamas who was operating a stolen piece of heavy equipment in a residential area.
Citizen-led police-watchdog agency IIO had previously determined there were “reasonable grounds” to conclude the officer might have committed offences in the March 28, 2023, incident.
But the prosecution service said the evidence did not meet its charge-assessment standard, with no substantial likelihood of conviction for any criminal offence in relation to the incident.
David Cochrane, the man shot, said in 2024 that he would be suing RCMP for “excessive, unjustifiable force,” adding RCMP should have known he was in a state of medical crisis.

A pedestrian was hit by a driver at a downtown Victoria intersection that was partially closed due to an earlier crash between two police vehicles Friday.
The intersection of Caledonia Avenue and Blanshard Street was closed northbound after a crash at 9:15 a.m. between two police vehicles.
Two-and-a-half-hours later, while the intersection was still closed, a pedestrian was hit by a driver of a vehicle at 11:50 a.m.
