He attended Queens in 1990.
YouTube did not start until 2005.
It's VERY different world today in terms of free online education available.

Premier Doug Ford is demanding Ontario’s newest medical school educate qualified individuals “regardless of their race or background,” amid backlash over the school’s plan to loosen academic qualifications and screen out prospective students by race or status.
Toronto Metropolitan University’s new medical school in Brampton is expecting more than 5,000 applicants for 94 spots, of which three-quarters will be designated for students who are Black, Indigenous, or from “equity-deserving” groups. The latter include those who identify as LGBTQ, disabled, poor, and “racialized people.” It has also loosened certain common academic requirements.

Ya, Access to knowledge is much easier. Nothing is free though. There is still the time and opportunity cost. That's nit picking though. The point is very real.
My son is learning to cook from Gordon Ramsey. He is 14 and makes better huevos rancheros than any restaurant. But they can't afford to make the salsa fresh the same day and poach the eggs for that order in that same salsa. They couldn't charge enough. He even knows with pith is and what it does to flavor. Thanks Youtube.
Free for him but we pay for the device, the internet, the ingredients, the space and the equipment. But that's nit picking again.

It’s incredible, really. You have the best of the best teaching you step by step. You can’t get that anywhere else.
I am making major engine modifications to my truck right now, all thanks to YouTube. Ten years ago you’d be mad to be doing what I’m going to attempt as a shade tree mechanic, but I’ve spent the last couple of months studying the methods and tricks from guys who know what they’re talking about. There’s lots of nuance to be learned by physically doing the steps but I think I’m ready for it.
Or at least, I’ve already started tearing the thing apart so I better be ready for it, lol.

The University of Victoria has cancelled a scheduled on-campus talk by the extremist preacher Younus Kathrada.
Kathrada, who is on record calling for the annihilation of Jews and denouncing Canada as “evil and filthy” for its tolerance of homosexuality, was invited by the UVic Muslim Students Association to conduct a Nov. 24 lecture entitled The Importance of Connecting with the Muslim Community.

Completely inaccurate article. UVic never scheduled this, a student association did; the only thing UVic has done is deny the meeting space requests.
The student associations are under the UVSS, which is a separate entity altogether from UVic.

The student associations are under the UVSS, which is a separate entity altogether from UVic.
It's not "completely inaccurate".
The article says:
After the event was publicized by the National Post and Global News — and was widely criticized on local reddit forums — the university issued a statement saying that the Muslim Students Association’s “space booking request for this event has been declined.”
“We will not limit debate or prohibit the reasonable exercise of freedom of expression on campus,” said a UVic spokesperson. “However, it is imperative that these conversations take place in an inclusive and constructive manner and that, above all else, they are safe for those engaged — directly or indirectly.”
The statement also noted that the Muslim Students Association is ratified by the University of Victoria Students’ Society, a non-profit organization that is a “separate entity from the university.”
Now, the article headline and first sentence does say "UVic cancels", when in fact it was never granted permission to begin with. But that is splitting hairs a bit, because the group indeed advertised the event as going forward, with a date and location, then UVic "cancelled it".

Except, as far as I know, the event is still going forward. The location was always TBD. The Instagram post is still up.
You might be right, the location might have never been advertised.
Anyway now it's at his Center on Bay St.:

The university is aware that the Muslim Student Association (MSA) has been planning two events with divisive and controversial speakers in November. We want to assure our community that these events have never been scheduled to take place at UVic.
The MSA did request space to hold these events on our campus, but these requests were declined.
Student clubs, including the MSA, are ratified by the University of Victoria Students’ Society (UVSS), which is a non-profit organization and a separate entity from the university. All ratified student clubs are governed by UVSS policies.
Thoughtful, reasoned and academic discourse and discussions of current issues are central to the life of the university. The university values the free and lawful expression of ideas. We will not limit debate or prohibit the reasonable exercise of freedom of expression on campus. However, it is imperative that these conversations take place in an inclusive and constructive manner and that, above all else, they are safe for those engaged – directly or indirectly.
We recognize that some members of our community may be feeling targeted, isolated or otherwise negatively impacted by these events. If you are impacted, please know that you are not alone. Resources and supports are available for students, faculty and staff on campus and in our community.
Know it all.

There was a good segment on 60 Minutes tonight about the University of Austin.
Basically set up to return to the intended mission of Universities ie. to educate and promote discussion, not stifle what you don't agree with. As the Dean said we should discuss politics not have it as our operating system.
