Love it! There is an installation in Selkirk of an older wood lined pipe (near the pedestrian bridge).

It seems that storm water is more of a problem for pollutants than sewage. Upgrading the entire pipe system in the CRD should be the main priority, and if some of the older pipes can handle it, then leave them. If not, they should be replaced.

Wood pipes can last indefinitely if air is kept out of the mix. Wood has been salvaged years later from the bottom of reservoirs and has been in perfect condition. The 100 year old piles under the Empress hotel were found to be sound condition during the last renovation. Piles driven into the bottom of the harbour down to bedrock, are likely in very good condition.

If it ain't broke...

Where is the heritage preservation? ;-)

Wood can last a long time underwater. Timber drowned to make various reservoirs in BC has been harvest more than 50 years later and been perfectly acceptable for milling

To maintain satisfactory water quality, water main flushing starts January 5, 2015 to May 1, 2015, weather permitting.
Those who would like advance notification of flushing in their immediate area, are asked to call Waterworks at 250-475-5481

between 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Temporary discolouration and/or low water pressure may occur as a result of water main flushing.

This discolouration is not a health hazard.

Any discolouration is temporary and users are asked to minimize consumption if a change in water apprearance is noticed.

The District of Saanich accepts no liability for inconvenience or damages caused by low pressure or discoloured water use during its flushing program.

Your cooperation and understanding is appreciated.
