Might be impressive might not doesn’t really matter to me .I fully supported downtown business in their  effort to clean up the square with decorations. Trying to bring  families back downtown for shopping making and making them welcome    instead of just giving up . Reclaiming a little bit of town at least for the Christmas season. Its a grand gesture by businesses who already face more than there fair share of extra cost keeping their businesses safe ,clean and open .I hope some City Hall employee’s get their daily dose of Christmas joy .

You could, but the tree costs $9,950.

It ain’t free.

We were a table of four at 5:45, I knew there was no way, especially since they are closed for two weeks now. Nice to say hello and merry Christmas to Marc and the crew though.

We went last night with the grandkids. I thought it was a pretty impressive display. As Love the Rock points out, the place was crawling with families and regular folk out enjoying a public square that's often not inviting. Good for the DVBA.

On CHEK news the other night they interviewed a couple from Metchosin visiting the light display. When asked if this was what drew them to downtown, I am paraphrasing, but they said "bikes lanes couldn't get us to come here, but this did".

That’s a bit lame.

A vibrant nightlife is part of a vibrant downtown.

Add a little dash of winter sunset and you have the cat’s meow.

I heard a rumour that the reason for the delay in setting up the display was because the electrical assemblies arrived without CSA-approval stickers and NEMA connectors. Anyone else hear this?

With regards to the light display, some or most of the concrete weights holding them down are fuuuuuugggggly. Some effort, even a little, could have been made to cover them or make them look like wrapped gifts maybe or something..

sounds right. they knew well in advance it would be delayed by a week. not something extra labour could fix.

That's high praise coming from VV's resident Ansel Adams.
