Yes indeed. Some trees should be deemed end-of-life probably sooner than many are. Or trees near critical power infrastructure should get downgraded in protection status. To a lesser tier.

...Now you can’t touch trees without a tribunal deciding on whether you’re allowed to remove it, and replace it.

Unless the tree's presence interferes with a bike lane, then it's gone a colonial statue in the night*

Parts of downtown, including North Park are without power right now.

Not sure if we have seen this before. Interesting article by BC Hydro on a Green Roof. There is an open house today where you have to email to get an invite. There might still be time to see it.

^  Ya.  Nothing about that looks like a long-term maintenance issue.

Like a fool I just finished getting the moss off the roof. i just use baking soda to get the moss off, I don’t know why you need anything else. the TC says to use zinc sulphate

The soda also keeps the roof smelling fresh

The horror scene just seems like some smoke from one small spot.

Sunny 43°C in Las Vegas. Guessing they just got up to full power for the first time in a while

Saturday night in the dark. Scramble to find the candles and flashlights.

Big power outage in Saanich due to a motor vehicle accident on the highway.

Probably causing a mess to traffic too?

Cringe to think about an accident bad enough to cause this much of an outage.

Does anyone know whether hydro keeps a crew or 2, ready to go, like fire fighters? Or were the crew that attended the accident all pulled off their couches or out if bed? Looks like it only took them 40 minutes after the outage started to be on scene.

Yes, and contractors as well. They run a tight ship.

We get plenty of outages out this way, and it’s pretty cool to see the armada of five or six trucks in a convoy heading out to restore service. Makes you really appreciate the nation we live in.

True. The issue is usually whether they call people in who are off shift and/or decide to engage with a 3rd party contractor.

So a large part of Saanich is now predicted not to have power until sometime this afternoon. Waiting for the right crew? Or part?

BC Hydro says pets may be one reason why residential air conditioning use is on the rise in the province.

A survey conducted by the government-regulated power supplier found one-third of respondents said they use air conditioning specifically to keep their pets cool during summer months. Of those people, a quarter are leaving the AC on for pets even if they aren’t home. They also say costs are not a concern.

By 2025, new Victoria buildings can't use natural gas or other fossil fuels, council decides

“..In addition to cost and supply issues for electricity, concerns have also been raised about restaurants in new buildings not being able to cook with natural gas, and people being blocked from making their own choices about the types of energy they want to buy...”:

I’m buying more coal than ever. It’s great on the BBQ too. Distinct taste.
