Agreed.

Mum finally landed a family doctor, only to lose him a year later to Prince George. He couldn’t make it work financially on the south Island. Prior to that, her doctor closed his downtown practice and moved to Mill Bay. Prior to that, her doctor retired.

We’re in bad shape in BC. So bad, that people with money don’t even waste their time waiting for treatments here and travel abroad for healthcare.

Or, as I pointed out a few months back, you (or your employer) can pay $50 - $130 and get bumped to the front of the line. You think anyone politically connected is waiting?

Hmmm…I’m not sure I would trust that. Who knows who’s on the other side.

Licensed Canadian doctors are on “the other side”.

I have used it many times. They are generally doctor's from outside of BC but all are Canadian. Average wait time for an appointment about 10 minutes.

If you prefer you can always get up early and start calling your medical clinic within 2 minutes of them opening and hope that you can get an appointment that day before they fill up. You can also try to get an appointment with a free telehealth clinic as long as you don't mind waiting a week.

Maple seems to be saying that BC residents don't have to pay for a once-a-day video chat:

  • British Columbia: Under BC’s Medical Services Plan (MSP), residents can speak with general practitioners by video chat on Maple once per day, Monday to Friday, between 7am and 6pm PT. Click here for more information.

Video chat is not a doctor's visit, sorry. It's a prescription fill-out.

I don’t go to the doctor much, but I’ve never been to an appointment where the doctor had to touch me, I don’t think.

So virtual wound have worked fine.

Oh one time I went to a clinic and they got some stuff out of my eye. That would have been harder virtually.

A lot of guys contract that out already to other pay-per-service professionals.

Well, Maple seems to not be very clear because from their website, it appears that whats covered for BC is a regular GP visit (not specialist, not texting, only once a day): https://www.getmaple...ual-healthcare/

That is health-care today. Try getting an appointment anywhere to see a GP in person. Even local clinics are doing tele-health.

They have you do it yourself and then explain what you feel.

Without going into detail, what do you use them for?

I can see getting prescriptions and such but what if I have a sore shoulder or an unrelenting headache? Can they refer you to specialists?

Gow about doing something radical like building a new medical and nursing school somewhere like Mill Bay. It could be the start point for a new retirement community as well as training more doctors and nurses. We could pay for it by getting rid of all the politicians administrative assistants and cutting their gold plated pensions.

Lab reqs and prescriptions. They will also write notes. Apparently they cannot do referrals however but those are usually less time sensitive since you are going to wait forever to see the specialist anyways.
