^They’re always so quick to jump up and shout when there’s some American problem, no matter how irrelevant the issue is here. It’s truly pathetic.

B.C. breaks provincial record for number of MRI and CT scans performed
....The improvements result from expanding MRI appointments into the evenings, weekends and holidays and operating the equivalent of 17 new MRI units across the province. In 2021-22, the province opened two new MRI scanners and one new CT scanner.

That's because they are mostly private. Same facility will get paid by the province or you can pay directly to help speed things up.
That is my understanding from some biz dealings with an unscrupulous fellow that had such a biz so I could be wrong on that. Prove me wrong!

I have a friend who just got a CRT after a 9 month wait for a prostrate issue. He also suffered a minor stroke last May and is still waiting for an MRI. So I guess things are getting better!

I don't know about 'referring' patients. Bottom line is you pay at a private clinic.
I can see a doctor saying that if you have a serious condition and need timely treatment then your only option is a private MRI scan.
Having said that, getting the scan is one thing, you may still wait 2 years after that to see the specialist!

I suppose if the scan reveals a serious issue, that requires immediate remediation, you move up a bit.
You would think so wouldn't you. Problem is that when you go to your local quicki clinic to get the referral (since the private clinics can't refer), you have about a 50/50 of the GP taking issue with you being a wealthy privileged white person using your money to jump the queue. You may find that if you get a referral they might forget to mark it as urgent.
The private clinics have a solution for that, for more money they will have an out of Province specialist speak to you.

Unless you have the MLA exemption that bypasses the queue altogether.

I have an issue with that as well, I'll never do it.

^ The only people allowed to jump the queue are MLAs, celebs and athletes, what was Telus thinking?

Pro athletes jump the queue like all workplace injuries do. So that’s a bit different.
I think they jump a little quicker than workplace injuries!
