Only 3 months earlier “ But Fraser Health disagreed, arguing that firing the 460 of its employees who refused vaccination was the only reasonable course of action.”

It’s not only a clown world for doing this during a health crisis but also because it’s not talked about in reference to the ongoing health labour shortage….

Meanwhile on salt spring, agencies involved with the people living in the Seabreeze inn site have dragged their heels on a solution so long that the hospital foundation decided to solve the short term issue themselves by arranging for temporary camp housing with all services to be barged over and placed on a site owned by a seniors association. They managed to pull together housing for 22 people in a couple of weeks, something the orgs involved couldn’t do in six months.

Nimby’s aren’t happy of course.

Nobody is quite sure what to do with the people currently at the inn, but most agree we need more housing for hospital staff, as evidenced by the fact you now have to move off island to have a baby.

The reality of living on a tiny island might be sinking in.

The only thing keeping the Gulf Islands solvent is the lack of a spec tax.

20% of homes are vacation properties. That’s staggeringly high. Greater Victoria is 5%, and we have the spec tax.

I feel some type of voodoo math is taking place here.

"...the result of those choices was that she rendered herself, by virtue of the terms of the order, ineligible to work."

Cheers erupt from the crowd because of the justness of the ruling. And then along comes the next order...

Lather, rinse, repeat, for the entire course of human history.

Outside of Salt Spring it’s a bewildering 50% non-residency rate, but of course, the NDP don’t consider that speculation. Only homes in Fairfield, Sidney, Sooke, Langford, etc, could be speculative purchases.

Ah, it reads to me like you thought this was always such an issue and it’s just now people are clueing in to it, which isn’t the case.

We are all hoping the hospital foundation will be able to solve many of these issues with their proactive work to secure acceptable staff housing, something it seems most sizeable businesses here already have in one form or another.

Isn't Wonder Woman from Paradise Island? I guess it would be paradise with no children around. 🤣

I don’t know if all of these businesses warehousing workers is the solution when there are 1,000-units of housing on Salt Spring used as rental housing.
