It's quite staggering the amount of people that head up-Island every weekend in the summer. The traffic starts building early Friday afternoon, and gets pretty crazy. Another set heads up on Saturday morning.

I realize there are a variety of places to go up there, not everyone is going to the same place or the same distance... but... I wonder what they have that we don't?

And while we don't have much to offer in the core or on the peninsula in terms of waterfront camping, do you think the west coast (Sooke to Port Renfrew) could do a better job marketing itself as a weekend destination(s)?

Do we need more/better camping options around here? Is there any land left in close where we could create some quality camping areas?

Cattle Point could be a cool campground. Lots of room, and a sandy beach just down the stairs.

Apart from the 900 block of Pandora, there are lots of areas in the new CRD Juan de Fuca lands that could be good campgrounds. Jordan River campground could be expanded a lot, so could the Land Conservancy's Sooke Potholes campground. This would, of course, take money and that is in short supply both for the province and any NGO.
