There is a very interesting situation brewing in the cable TV sports community right now.

Rogers today launched Sportsnet One, their fifth sports specialty channel, after Sportsnets Pacific, West, East and Ontario. Already some Jays fans are upset, as they moved some of their Jays games from the other original channels, and moved them to Sportsnet One. Complicating this is the fact that Rogers is the only cable company that has the new channel.

Now the part that will concern fans around here. Sportsnet One will broadcast 13 Canucks games this year, making the Canucks pay-per-view gone for this season. But with Shaw not yet carrying the channel, there might be a showdown brewing between the once freindly rivals, Shaw and Rogers. They used to be friends and had an informal truce to not step on each others territory, after they carved up the country in a big swap of systems inthe 90's.

This will be sorted before hockey season kicks off. Shaw has been getting an earful already from footy fans for not having the channel for the beginning of the English Premier league. Chelsea fans have been calling, emailing and posting their frustration over missing today's match. Not only that, but Setanta HD isn't available yet either.
