Yellow Cab driver threatens to kick passengers out of cab unless paid in cash

None of us were carrying any cash and this made him very agitated. So much so that he threatened to kick us out. At that point we raised a storm and he continued on (his English wasn't good enough to put up much of a fight).
Is it legal for drivers to ask for cash instead of credit card or interac payments? Can they actually boot passengers over payment options?

This past weekend my friends and I caught a Yellow Cab home and several moments into the ride the driver told us that we must pay him cash. One of us asked why, and he said he gets the money right away instead of waiting 30-days.

I think businesses can set their own policies for payment forms, so "legality" probably doesn't enter into this situation. But he may have been in violation of his company policies. Well, let me rephrase that. If there is signage or otherwise that clearly indicates that other forms of payment are accepted, and there was no indication that those forms would not be accepted on your journey, than likely he "legally" would be obligated to accept them.
What was the outcome, and have you spoken to Yellow Cab management?

I had a difficult time getting a management phone number from Yellow Cab's 381-2222 call centre. They must get a lot of complaints.

How weird!
If it was me...I would want to talk to management.
I use Yellow Cab pretty much exclusively and have never had a problem.
If their debit/credit machine isn't working...there's a sign posted or they say something as soon as you get in.
Something stinky in Denmark me thinks.

I rarely use Yellow Cab. CN likes to call Squamish Yellow Cab and we'll turn them away and request the other cab company. I've had Yellow Cab drivers demand cash even though we're on CN's account, I've had other drivers fall asleep while driving. Not just nod off, but lay down on the front seat asleep while driving the Duffy Lake Road. Yellow Cab is also the only cab company I know of that uses KIA Rios for vehicles.
That Yellow Cab is not related to ours. Ours was formerly known as Empress Taxi.

The advantage to the driver of you paying cash would, I expect, be that he could collect without recording the call. I often suspect this is why some of the drivers like to cover the "webcam" in the car, as well.
It isn't relevant. Taxi drivers pay a set daily fee to the dispatch office. The company doesn't take a portion of the sales.

One would think that the fact the website is called Vibrant Victoria might be a bit of a clue that we are talking about Yellow Cab in Victoria. Wow.
As a person who used to drive for Yellow Cab (actually, back then it was Empress Taxi), I can tell you I couldn't have cared less if people paid cash or credit. I slightly preferred those two over debit though simply because debit usually took a little longer, so what this driver's problem was, I have no idea. If you kept the receipt, it should say which cab it was so you still might be able to shoot the company an e-mail at Taxi@YellowCabOfVictoria.Com

No, Bodnarchuk sold the company before I joined.
That's not necessarily a bad thing.
