This is one of the least known heritage homes in Victoria. The site dates back to 1856 and had it's 150th B-Bash this summer. Seems to me that we are wasting our heritage and not putting our time and money into places like here and Abkhazi Gardens or Point Ellice House.

I remember several trips to the manor and the school house when I was in elementary school. But oddly enough we never visited Pt Ellice House even though it was much closer. We were, however, told it was haunted so us kids never wanted to get near the place unless, of course, we were double-dared to do so.

Are Craigflower Manor/Schoolhouse being neglected by funding shortcuts or anything of the sort?

Yes, the TLC has control for atleast 5 years to see if they can get it prospering but they are spread too thinly with too many projects and the location isn't suitable for tourists off the cruise ships. We need to make the locals more aware of these lovely sights.
Thanks!

A[/url:f8ad6] lot[/url:f8ad6] of European cities have tourist cards where you pay a fixed price for a card that gets you in to lots of attractions. The deep discounts encourage tourists to visit museums they might ordinarily skip. In many cases it works out to one Euro per museum!

Getting to Pt. Ellice or Craigflower is difficult without a car so any incentive helps.

I bet tourists would love it if for a couple extra dollars they could add Emily Carr House and Pt. Ellice to their Craigflower admission.

Funding shortfall, perhaps?

In all seriousness, I'd expect View Royal to help keep the place running (at least its own portion). They're raking in a substantial amount from the casino and honestly have nowhere to put the money.

That tourist card is a great idea! Perhaps the TLC could be sold on it by itself or join up with the Maritime museum, Craigdarroch and Royal Roads.

Also might encourage tourists to stay an extra day when they see how many out of the ordinary tourist draws there are here. Could throw in Fort Rodd Hill as well.

Get it set up properly, and make it a tourist in your own hometown thing during the off-season.

See, you could have the guy's ticket which gets you in the Maritime Museum, Fort Rodd Hill, DND Museum, Airport Aviation Museum, and the chick's pass which gets you Emily Carr House, Point Ellice House,! :D

Ow! Ow! Stop hitting me! I'm kidding! It's a joke! Ow!

This is a great idea some one needs to do this. Tourism Victoria will never do it though just because they are not going to send tourists to far flung sights over the tried and true (boring) but perhaps the TLC might bite. Or the Hallmark society.
