"Hi (VHF),
Pull into the gravel parking lot to the right, just before the landfill gates.
I will meet you there."

The after tour of the "Spirit of Tomorrow" went well, Coronas and G2s and a showing of the ground source heat pump appeared to delight the crowd.
We even took up a collection for bail money for VHF. The only problem we have, is to figure out what jail to send it to.

I didn't recognise anyone in those photos.
I was there, but was beta-testing my Halloween costume. I dressed as a heap of garbage, nobody spotted me. I'm in picture #3 and #6.

Alpine is a regular depositor of waste to Hartland. If you see them on the ferry headed to the mainland, chances are they are hauling recyclables.
One of the topics that I wanted to confirm was that there is a leachate (garbage laden water run off) pipe that runs from Hartland to the Marigold sewage pumping station, which in turn sends that fluid to the Macaulay Point outfall. Confirmed. The leachate is tested before it leaves the site, but further questions are required as to what results are obtained and what do those results mean.
I am sure that others will have some comments on topics that are dear to them.
We have come a long way from dumping our garbage into the ocean (yes in my lifetime) but I think we still have a long way to go.
There is a tremendous amount of politics involved with disposing waste and managing the landfill. (right down to what happens to the blasted rock that remains from increasing it's size).
We need to become more involved in order to ensure that decisions are made with our grand children's existence in mind.
I came away feeling a little naive.

I had a hunch we would have found you in the controlled waste area.

The dogpile?
I was looking at it on Bing maps, much better photo than Google Earth but it looks like they were still constructing the pit when the photo was taken.
