It's taken the art gallery nearly a decade to amass 2/3's of the funding to build a $30 million art gallery.

As for funding, the provincial government has allocated $6 million towards the project, while private donors have contributed at least $5 million. The federal government has identified upwards of $10 million in funding, although no monies have been committed at this time. - https://victoria.cit...-council-s-nod/

I just can't see how the Maritime Museum folks expect to pull off $60 million, for a facility literally as far removed from the ocean as is possible for a city surrounded by the sea, next to a Costco, in a suburban location.

A maritime museum in a municipality with no ocean borders makes complete sense to me.

Surely there's no difference between Langford Lake and the Salish Sea?

1) Romania has an ocean coast and has had one since independence in 1877.  They currently have 10 surface combatant ships and one submarine, more than half the size of the Canadian navy

2)Langford has an ocean coast on the Saanich Inlet and has had one since they formed as a municipality

3) How in the hell is the Maritime Museum going to raise $60,000,000????   I would be surprised if they could raise a tenth of that in a timely manner.

4) Do they really think tens of thousands of tourists are going to go to Costcoland for this museum?

What next? Maybe Greece will get involved in shipping, even though it's not on the ocean? Maybe Victoria will become Canada's busiest cruise port, even though it's not on the ocean? Let's not get Mike K. started.

I think St. Patrick’s Day should be celebrated one day a year.

That might be confusing if an Ocean's Eleven Museum ever opens right across the street. But it's better than "Sea Museum", which would surely cause confusion re: the Alphabet Museum's ambitious new "C" exhibit.

Aquatic Civilization Museum

I have been studying misunderstood undersea civilizations since 1975 and would welcome further dissemination of this field of study in a museum setting.
