I see the article also says shared laundry. Definitely look forward to seeing the prices and occupancy.
Ya, that's pretty backwards, I wonder why.

The New England Hotel will indeed become a residential building, but with a twist.
The office component has been dropped in favour of 22 microloft rentals of 250-350 square feet. Now you can try before you buy (at the Janion!)
Commercial space will be leased on the ground floor and completion for the New England is only months away now.
So History Buff's photos depicting kitchenettes and full bathrooms all over the place were indeed indicative of residential space and not office/commercial.
I am happy you found this out was beginning to think that maybe I didnt see bathtubs.

It's no biggie. Most rental apartments in Victoria have shared laundry and many apartments also ban washers/dryers in units. Part of the reason is if one dryer hose goes bust you end up flooding several apartments. When it comes to microlofts I'm sure most residents would rather have the extra 7-8 square feet of space.

I'm glad you're not hooking up my appliances. We'd have flooding/fire first day.
I dunno Mike, people like new, but they also like all the whistles, and that usually means dishwasher and laundry. If they don't have that, they can find an older, larger apartment, maybe with parking options, for the same price.

Haha! That's awesome. Call me anytime.
Yeah I totally hear what you're saying, to charge a premium rate you should include those appliances, but then just personally speaking I'd hate to have a washer/dryer sticking out like a sore thumb in a tiny unit. Either you hide the thing in a closet and lose valuable closet space or you're forced to stare at something hulking over your living space (and something you'd only use once a week).
I'm sure the decision not to include washers/dryers in every unit was to save space. And quite honestly the rental market is full of buildings with shared laundry facilities so I don't think it'll be a huge problem.

That doesn't surprise me in a rental vs ownership

Just standard legal stuff on holdbacks, advises the trades etc. You see that often.

Is it just me or did I see several cellphone transmitters going up on the roof of the New England? They sure look like cell transmitters but I can't quite tell.

in Australia, 50 square metres is as small as an apartment should be. that's 538 square feet. http://www.theage.co...0610-39vwh.html
