Yeah but we lost the passenger service to PG which must have been a pretty amazing trip.

The passenger service, of which I was one of the heaviest users in the province, was a a very interesting and amazing trip, but it was badly managed, expensive and had to operated without any subsidy.

The highest use was from North Vancouver to Lillooet - Lillooet is a town of 3500 - 4000 people but no public transportation within a hour of it. The train was it.

Unfortunately the schedule sucked for people needing to go to Vancouver. You arrived late a night in North Vancouver and then left 7 am from there as well. The train station was not close to any public transit. The train meant you had to spend two night in Vancouver if you needed to spend any part of the daytime hours in the city.

If the train station had been moved a couple of K to the east to Lonsdale, you would have been at the Seabus and the primary bus exchange on the North Shore.

I started using the train in 1995 and used till it shut down in 2003. In that time the prince close to tripled for the trip. At the end the price to go to PG from North Vancouver was more expensive than the plane.

There is a tourist train on the route now.

There is also a daily rail service from Shalath to Lillooet along Seton Lake.

The BC Rail has some amazing views along it, but once you get to Kelly Lake near Clinton, the trip is bland.

In Feb 2001 I was travelling with oldest son who was six at the time. He was allowed to sit up front with the engineer and help run the train for about an hour along Anderson Lake.
