What some people seem to gloss over is the fundamental slap in the face of democracy that this act of vandalism represents. A publicly elected individual has the right to conduct himself in the course of doing his duties in any way he sees fit. It's fair game to oppose that person politically. But that person's home and family are completely separate and must be protected.
These idiots aren't striking against authority when they vandalize the mayor's home. They're striking at the very system that lets these selfish, thoughtless thugs go about their business in a free society.
This is why I think vandalizing an election sign is more sinister than vandalizing a real estate sign. And why the Watergate burglary was more serious than your average break and enter.

They better not wait too long, Mayor Fortin might wake up with a concrete JSB counterweight sitting on his front lawn

I notice in all the speculation about who will succeed Carole James that Fortin's name has yet to be mentioned as even a possibility.
Why would it?
