I just saw an original light sabre at the Pop Culture Museum in Seattle. It's only a 1940s Graflex camera flash handle with some extra bits bolted on. Kind of silly, really but I guess if you're a Star Wars fanatic it's the Holy Grail.

The missus and I have been trying to figure out what will become of the Hillside Sears space. Its big but the mall has two anchor tenants in Can Tire and Thrifty's. What's to be done with that much square footage on two levels?
Another anchor tenant? Dunno about that.
Sub-divide the space?

If I ran the world - and I am still working on my plan for that - I'd renovate/rebuild that space into a theatre/entertainment venue with a multi-storey residential addition.

Would be a great spot for a Cineplex VIP theatre. Ample free parking...perfect spot for a date night outside of downtown.

Just back from a week in Seattle and so had to try out the Amazon Go Store. It was pretty small but super cool. Retail is going to all be this way at some point. Walking out the door was amazing! Maybe they can trial one here for the Canadian angle...

Now, what was the requirement to enter?   Can you bring a non-conforming guest?

An Amazon account and an app on your phone. And yes you can bring guests. I brought my two kids. You scan them in first and then yourself. You of course have to pay for anything they take though.

Do you think one thing people skip over when they say online is killing retail is that we have never had such easy access to used items as we never had in the past?

If I was looking for a good wheel barrow or a set of skates for my 9 year old, I’d more than likely buy used. And I’d have no trouble finding them both online locally.

(Anything in today’s new wage laws says I have to pay my 9 year old when he does the gardening?)

You are paying him by instilling work ethic!

Fairfax Financial is close to a deal to buy Toys R Us Canada... this could be good news for the local store.  See https://www.theglobe...toys-r-us-deal/ .

Cascadia Liquor Store's application for a larger Quadra Village location (within the same shopping plaza) is going to CotW this Thursday morning.  City staff are in support of the application.

Not sure where to place this (it’s not exactly retail) but... VI Fitness has closed its doors suddenly and has entered bankruptcy. See https://www.cheknews...-arrive-445980/

Oaklands Veterinary Clinic will be going into the old Cottage/Cabin 12 location on Cedar Hill Rd. It's three vets spinning off their practice from McKenzie Vet.

People and their stupid pets. Destroying the planet too.

If we killed all pets global warming would be held at bay for another 40 years.

But nobody wants to do that or stop taking jet flights.
