Too bad about Macs. We go there a lot in the summer for our picnic munchies. Also Pic-a-Flic for French and Russian movies. The ATM in Oxford has been out of order a couple of times which was a nuisance for us. And now the Royal Bank downtown is closed on Saturdays again. Some of the small businesses my daughter and I frequent only take cash, which is fine with us.

Yes, the bank started closing Saturdays as of the middle of July. It's a nuisance if you don't feel like trying to get down during the week. You dare not make an appointment for a weekday afternoon if you need to find a parking spot in any parkade. We used to always go to the Cook St. branch on a Saturday.

I've been told by staff that the Saturday closures are temporary and they will go back to their regular hours once the interior construction and renovations are complete.

I hope that's true. Wish they would put up a sign to that effect though. Renovations?

Monarch Furnishings is moving from what will become the Ironworks into the long empty retail space on Hillside between Cook and Quadra (once rumoured to become a second Root Cellar location). Signage is up on the Hillside location and the downtown storefront is having a moving sale.

Years ago my daughter went to school with the original owners of Pacific Trekking. Wonder what became of them?

Does anyone know what will be going in the restored Brookman's Grocery at the Amica building? Will it be run by Amica or leased out?

Just noticed today that the 7-11 on Wale Rd. in Colwood is gone. Long enough for the corporate site and Google Maps to note it as permanently closed, but first I'd seen.

Some sort of cafe but I pretty sure it will be leased to an outside operator.

It's been longer than that. The change to the traffic pattern on Wale Rd and the CO-OP killed them off. Probably going to be a pot shop come October. You heard it here first.

Seems the Tent City down the road played a large part in their closure as well.
