people will pay a top dollar for a mattress that they believe helps with sleep.

good on them that they are expanding their stuff is not cheap.

some prices:  https://fawcettmattr...uct/model-nine/

Single $2,149.00 Single XL $2,199.00 Double $2,749.00 Double XL $2,799.00 Queen $3,299.00 King $3,949.00 Californian King $4,049.00

So for the low, low price of FOUR Endy King mattresses, I can get into one of these?  Cool story, brah.

I've never been in a Costco, but if all produce is pre-bagged that wouldn't suit us at all. That would result in more waste as we like to buy only what we need for a short time period. I guess it's good if you have ten kids and don't like to select your own veg and fruit, but have some stranger do it for you.

its not bagged in the way you think, its bagged at the source. You can't buy individual apples you buy a bag of apples or potatoes or oranges, grapes, peppers. things like cantaloupes or melons are usually sold as is ie not bagged for a flat price not sold by weight

I still don't need that many apples as I only eat a couple a week and like to examine them first. Same with potatoes as often they have soft or black spots. As for peppers, one a week, if that, does me. No way I want a bagful! They would end up in the compost. A couple of oranges is plenty for me as well.

Out of curiosity I searched for fresh pineapples in the Colonist archives and you could get one in 1909 for 20 cents, 18 cents in 1916, 25 cents in 1922, 49 cents in 1945 and in 1971.

According to the Bank of Canada inflation calculator the 1922 pineapple would be $3.63 today, the 1945 pineapple was $7.11 and the 1971 one would be $3.07.

^ Anthem has a growing portfolio in Victoria. They own (wholly or parts of) Market Square, Dominion Rocket, and the Union.

Perhaps we'll finally see some action on the Tillicum Shopping Centre residential tower.

Reading that old thread from 2008 is a cool trip down memory lane.  Definitely one of those projects that would have been fantastic but never materialized

It's odd, hey, how both the Tillicum and Uptown residential towers never materialized.

Kind of a reminder that despite how much has changed here in recent years, we are not Vancouver,  and without rapid transit and major density, not that many people want to live in a shopping mall.

Living on the same block as a shopping centre and its parking lot is not a new thing in Victoria. You've got that old complex in James Bay (the supermarket and the mini mall with apartments above), Mattick's Farm, Parc Residences in Vic West... and now there's that new place in View Royal. It makes me wonder why shopping centres like Tillicum or University Heights or Hillside should be any different? The malls may not be pretty (especially in Tillicum's case) but then again there are plenty of houses and apartments all around. Why should having a view of a shopping centre from "on property" be any worse than having a view of the same shopping centre from directly across the street?

edit: How about Harris Green? Every apartment looks down at the shopping centre. Some people live on the same block.

Tuscany village and those other examples were built as residential, not added on later. And Tillicum mall is pretty different than any of those. It’s way more or an actual “mall”
