somehow i thought antique roadshow pawn stars and storage locker wars and barrett jackson would raise the popularity of these businesses.

why doesn’t either auction house film their events for the internet? make a real show of it.

This is a good point.  A bit of decent social media activity would be a game changer for this business

The internet has made it much easier for people to estimate the value of their own collectibles and sell it themselves via eBay etc.

And the bottom has fallen out of the classic antique furniture market. Beautiful pieces that used to sell for thousands now sell for hundreds. Young people are buying IKEA or mid-century modern.

Yup. That’s all true.

And your business is literally dependent on what people bring through the door, or competing for estate sales.

I wonder if Lund’s will leverage that space somehow? Allison did an absolutely marvellous job on the interior of that space.

aren’t most auction items just entire estates? and the heirs just trying to get rid of it all with no hassle?

And pennies on the dollar sales from my most recent experience disposing of an estate through auction.

Antiques are so yesterday Designers and collectors say the scene is changing. Contemporary designs now have ascendancy over once treasured pieces from the past...

^ sure it does, unless you're being pedantic and saying that is a TC1 frontage... Noodlebox etc are in that stretch.

Brothers Massimo (left) and Maurizio Segato, most notably known around town as the co-owners of Blanshard Street's Italian Food Imports delicatessen, are partners in the Macchiato Caffe & Paninoteca chain with Sean Sloat. The trio have listed the company's original location, along Broad Street at Broughton Street, for sale.

"Mid century modern" makes me laugh. It's that crap my parents had when I was a kid and never want to see again, lol.

For the photographically-inclined in this group, Henry's is hosting a grand opening event tomorrow. At their recently-opened storefront on Broad Street where Lens and Shutter used to be. Featuring some door-crasher specials, giveways, product demos etc.

Passed through downtown this morning and thought I'd see whether there was a lineup outside Henry's for the grand opening. There sure was, as seen at about 9:15.
