They didn't give the name, they just said its like the big one at Tsawwassen Mills.

this bass pro rumour seems like a red herring. an outdoor retailer of that size there would be like a fish out of water. and not exactly swimming with the sharks. the worst day fishing for insights on the real new tenant for this location is better than the best day working on real answers though.

I think Bass Pro would do better in Langford than Victoria. I doubt this rumour immensely and would also guess that Canadian Tire and Sport Chek and its outdoor upstairs would have competition clauses that would prevent it.

Indeed it would. You want a store like that on the way out of town, which is why Cabelas is in the northernmost strip mall in Nanaimo.

Bass Pro can more easily get away with being a destination as it includes entertainment, food, etc.

Capital Iron is closing its Sidney store in January. It has operated since 1988. Operators say a different location is being sought.

it's actually currently in its second sidney location.  it opened on bevan on its first incarnation.

reports that say that something hasn't happened at hillside mall are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know about walmart and hillside. we also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know about walmart. or hillside. but there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know. and if one looks throughout the history of our country and other free countries, it is the latter category that tend to be the difficult ones.

Two 'chain' retailers are having liquidation sales in Victoria in preparation to close these locations soon:

When Canadian Tire was open on Douglas it was interesting to see the difference between the product mix at that store versus the Langford location.  Certainly more outdoor/hunting/fishing stuff in Langford.  Haven't compared Hillside product mix...

“In Sidney, there’s not always a lot available there. It can be a tough town to find those types of spaces,” Black said.

 

All staff were offered positions at one of the other locations, and some will move there after Sidney closes its doors to the public on Jan. 18.

 

While “Sidney’s a good hub” and business was fine, Black said.

 

“I’d be fibbing to you if I didn’t say retail is challenging, in general, these days.”

 

The focus is to ensure they’re providing the best services at the two remaining locations in Langford and Victoria.

 

“Retail is an ever-changing game out there and we want to make sure we’re keeping up with those changes,” Black said.

 

He’ll also continue to look for a suitable location in Sidney.

When Canadian Tire was open on Douglas it was interesting to see the difference between the product mix at that store versus the Langford location.  Certainly more outdoor/hunting/fishing stuff in Langford.  Haven't compared Hillside product mix...

 

Hillside has almost every product they carry, as it's so large. They do keep the outdoor stuff like that tucked away upstairs though.

They don’t have firearms or at least they don’t have many. Their new Courtenay store has a large Cabela’s style firearms counter and display.

Yup, no firearms. I think the Langford store is the only one with a large-ish selection. I don’t recall whether firearms are sold at View Royal.

Jeremy Reitman, the CEO of Montreal-based womenswear company Reitmans, has died.

 

The company announced the news on Sunday.

 

He was the grandson of Reitmans’ founders, Herman and Sarah Reitman.

 

The company operates 587 stores across Canada under five separate banners, including Reitmans, Penningtons and Addition Elle.
